The screaming is over. The seething crowds have gone home for the evening. The body is still. Wrapped in seventy-five pounds of ointment and cloth. The man is dead. And I am relieved. The pain is over. The emptiness here would be horrible and terrifying if I didn't know about Easter. As it is, I'm thankful for the silence. The ending. The base wrongness of everything here . . . and it can't hurt him anymore. What else can evil do when there's only a body left? In death, evil can come at him no further.
