Formed in September 2003, CYJO provides an opportunity for students from the Cardiff area to learn the skills of playing Jazz and Big Band music. CYJO's repertoire includes standards from the likes of Duke Ellington, Glen Miller and Count Basie, as well as modern compositions and arrangements. They also have an ongoing exchange programme with Glenbrook High School, Chicago, USA.

We currently serve 20 secondary schools in South Wales. In most cases we deal with fees in the same way as the primary sector, directly with parents. However, several schools choose to 'buy in' our service and in many cases have made significant savings by tailoring our service to fit their needs most efficiently. Learning a musical instrument at a young age can bring enormous benefits, and our team of caring professional musicians will make sure that your child will achieve everything possible whilst being taught by CAVMS. Lesson costs are:. 10 minutes 5.00 (sometimes shared e.g. 2 sharing 20 minutes). 15 minutes 7.50. 20 minutes 10.00. 30 minutes 15.00. We only recommend the 10 minute lesson for the beginner, and then only for a term because it is simply not enough time to achieve real development.

CAVMS offers the full range of orchestral instrumental tuition, as well as voice, guitar and drums in Primary Schools. Typically we start at Junior level, but some schools are happy that beginners start in year 2. Early starters cannot normally play Brass or Woodwind instruments until they have second teeth, but guitar, violin and piano are feasible.
