CynicusEconomicus: Central Banks and Their Role in the Crash

http://cynicuseconomicus.blogspot.com/2009/02/central-banks-and-their-role-in-crash.html

Tuesday, February 3, 2009. Central Banks and Their Role in the Crash. As many readers will be aware, central banks are playing a central role in the management of the current economic crisis. As such, I thought that it may be worth reviewing their role in the creation of the crisis itself. After all, if they contributed to the crisis, it might be reasonable to question what role they may be playing in the attempts to fix the crisis. As a house is one of the largest items of expenditure for most individua...

CynicusEconomicus: What Is Going On In The World Economy?

http://cynicuseconomicus.blogspot.com/2008/07/what-is-going-on-in-world-economy.html

Thursday, July 17, 2008. What Is Going On In The World Economy? I had planned to write a long and detailed essay on this subject, but have recently been pressed for time. As such I am hoping that I will be forgiven writing a brief introduction to such a large topic. I am afraid that the introduction will lack references and specifics, for which I will apologise in advance. In short, most of the Western economies are falling off a cliff. In my essay ' A Funny View of Wealth. If we think about it, there is...

CynicusEconomicus: What the Cyprus case tells us

http://cynicuseconomicus.blogspot.com/2013/03/what-cyprus-case-tells-us.html

Friday, March 22, 2013. What the Cyprus case tells us. In order to understand the current problems in Cyprus, it is first necessary to know how the mess arose in the first place. Reuters have a very good background article here. And I will use it extensively. The 'series of events' that led up to the crisis commences with Cyprus joining the Euro zone:. More striking was the bank's exposure to Greek debt. There is considerable more detail that could be added, such as the high returns offered by Cypriot ba...

CynicusEconomicus: The Economic Crisis - The Underlying Cause

http://cynicuseconomicus.blogspot.com/2009/02/economic-crisis-underlying-cause.html

Friday, February 27, 2009. The Economic Crisis - The Underlying Cause. There is a widespread belief that what we are currently witnessing is an economic crisis resultant from a financial/banking crisis. It may come as a complete surprise to many to find out that what we are witnessing is an economic crisis that has led to a financial crisis. The current problems in the world economy have a different underlying cause to that which is widely discussed. And ' The Root of the Problem. I think it may be helpf...

CynicusEconomicus: The Minimum Wage

http://cynicuseconomicus.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-minimum-wage.html

Friday, February 15, 2013. Apologies for not posting for so long. Also, this is going to be one of the shortest posts I think I have written. I occasionally browse the Mises institute, although I am not an Austrian economist (they have some good points, but others are more questionable). This time round, I stumbled on an article. On the minimum wage. This key passage was of particular interest:. Why you are helping the working poor by such piddling amounts? Why stop at $4.55 an hour? Why not $10 an hour?

“…and then the grass turned into soil!” (70 days to go) |

https://ruralidiocy.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/and-then-the-grass-turned-into-soil-70-days-to-go

Welcome to our home…. A handmade peasant life. 8220;…and then the grass turned into soil! 8221; (70 days to go). It’s been all quiet busyness at Kervéguen this week. Just plodding progress constrained by the limitations of one slightly old, slightly fat and ever-so-weary man. Bears the gentle euphemism ‘hay’ for this neglected set up…. Now look at it! Funny though how such principles were nowhere to be seen when a friendly local farmer showed up out of the blue in a big, blue tractor. He wondered if ...

Retrospective (12 days to go…) |

https://ruralidiocy.wordpress.com/2011/05/19/retrospective-12-days-to-go

Welcome to our home…. A handmade peasant life. Retrospective (12 days to go…). Reverie about how much things had changed soon got me thinking (in a very middle-aged way) about how I’d ended up having a ragged, happy birthday in a toolshed in Brittany rather than the pre-ordained one: dejected in a suit in a bar in West Yorkshire. Why had my official life plan unravelled so absolutely? But I do know that strimmer is working just fine now. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). May 19, 2011.

Things preserved (42 days to go…) |

https://ruralidiocy.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/things-preserved-42-days-to-go

Welcome to our home…. A handmade peasant life. Things preserved (42 days to go…). Most of this process is spread over months. Sometimes you sow a seed and have to wait until the following year to enjoy the harvest. Which reminds me, it’s broccoli sowing time isn’t it? So much sugar goes into those preserves I reckon I could make a palatable lawn chutney or maybe a molehill pickle? But whatever the wretched dentist or the wretched sugar plantation worker might say, I say long-live the W.I! But we need rain.

Anyone for dock pudding? (25 days to go…) |

https://ruralidiocy.wordpress.com/2011/05/06/anyone-for-dock-pudding-25-days-to-go

Welcome to our home…. A handmade peasant life. Anyone for dock pudding? 25 days to go…). I’ve not even started yet and it’s apparent this subsistence thing is like crossing a big, hungry river on wobbly stepping stones. But even more profoundly peasanty is deciphering the back-story that is the hedgerow harvest. Could there be an unbroken, three-season narrative to uncover, starting with the wild garlic and ending with wild mushrooms? I’ve already discovered that the main attraction of this food. Back in...

Bill Barnett, South West independent: MP Whistleblower explains why he did it.....

http://south-west-independent.blogspot.com/2009/05/mp-whistleblower-explains-why-he-did-it.html

Independent Candidate for the South West region in the European Parliamentary Elections 2009. Friday, 22 May 2009. MP Whistleblower explains why he did it. The story gets murkier and murkier.there are apparently 3 different versions of the MPs expenses, each one carrying less and less detail.Just how much trouble were MPs going to to try and avoid us finding out the truth? Surely if they had nothing to hide, then why all the secrecy? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Please donate to my campaign. Run f...

Bill Barnett, South West independent: What links the following?

http://south-west-independent.blogspot.com/2009/05/what-links-following.html

Independent Candidate for the South West region in the European Parliamentary Elections 2009. Monday, 25 May 2009. What links the following? So what of Speaker Martin? He'll be applying for the post of Crown Steward and Bailiff of the Chiltern Hundreds in June, and then on to catch his next gravy train in the Lords. Makes me sick that even when they are caught out, they still find a way to keep filling their pockets at public expense. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Please donate to my campaign.

Independent Candidate for the South West region in the European Parliamentary Elections 2009. Friday, 22 May 2009. My Contract with the People of the South West. There have been many good things that have come out of Scotland. And unfortunately some not so good, including the current and immediate past prime ministers). I've signed up to the contract on the left, and I'm happy to be bound by it. Hat-tip to Alan Wallace, Jury Team Scotland). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Please donate to my campaign.

Bill Barnett, South West independent: MPs hard done by? I think not....

http://south-west-independent.blogspot.com/2009/05/mps-hard-done-by-i-think-not.html

Independent Candidate for the South West region in the European Parliamentary Elections 2009. Thursday, 28 May 2009. MPs hard done by? I'm getting a bit sick of our discredited representatives whining on that the allowances were only there to make up for low pay. I found a very interesting piece on the BBC which nails the lie. A vote for a party candidate is a vote for greed. June 4th is Independent's day - vote Jury Team to end the sleaze. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Please donate to my campaign.

Monday, August 4, 2008. The Chinese Communist Party. I have detailed in an earlier post one of the reasons why I despise. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and am currently in despair as they use the Olympic games to promote themselves amongst the Chinese people. I categorise them in the same group as Nazis, and believe that their ideology is racist, nationalistic and fundamentally aggressive. Returning to the Guardian, it could well be that the person was genuine, but completely deluded. There is a...

Aug 16, 2013. I have taken the advice of some people smarter than me on this and moved my blog to Wordpress. Aug 9, 2013. When "religious liberty" isn't. In the wake of electoral and Supreme Court defeats, some social conservatives are retreating. Within a few short years. In practice, however, claims of "religious liberty" very frequently aren't. They instead cloak their existing bigotry in this claim, effectively asking for the freedom to illegitimately discriminate. But this isn't only about marriages...

True Detective season 2 starts off on the wrong diseased, frustrating foot. My wife and I just caught up on the first, revelatory season of True Detective over the last couple weeks via HBO GO, so it was fresh in our mind for the second season premiere last night. That didn’t work out very well in its favor. The second began with half a dozen characters in different areas of surrealist David Lynchian Los Angeles – some cops, some detectives, some city officials – all midway through various cr...Today at ...
