From the beginning of the European landscape tradition, painters responded to a market for views that were already destroyed or were soon to be ruined by commercial development. In Prospects, I was drawn not only to the immensity and awe of the American landscape tradition, but also to the fundamental irony of that tradition. 3/2){this.style.height='auto';this.style.width='100%';};this.style.opacity='1';"/.

Crystalline structures are built on top of large pools of watercolor. The underbelly of icebergs was my focus in these large watercolors. The psychological metaphor of the unconscious became connected in my mind to the denial of global warming. I was thinking about ice, minerals, crystalline forms in nature. Layering geometric shapes of transparent color, letting them accumulate and create space and form, I found a working process that was a metaphor for organic growth processes.

Glacial Speed has a contradictory meaning when there is urgency in the pace of glaciers. I made an edition of 100 screen prints on watercolor paper and later hand-painted them to represent phases of change with abstracted imagery. The final piece includes a video with the 80 stills and sound recording of a glacier event. Video: http:/ vimeo.com/68179128. The watercolors in the. Series further exaggerate the forms of icebergs: gigantic underbellies of the unknown with slivers of visible ice above.

Recent Exhibitions & Presentations. Cross Section Remnants – an art project about tree slab monuments in Washington State. La Conner Tree, June, 2015. La Conner Tree Rubbing, detail, in artist’s studio. Spruce log in Forks, Wa. Over the next several years I plan to seek out all of the tree sections on public lands in Washington State, to create rubbings of each specimen. My goal is to capture the abstract beauty of these slowly disintegrating hulks. This entry was posted in General. July 1, 2015. Photos ...

Mt Waddington Reliquary – Art Installation | Anna McKee

http://annamckee.com/mt-waddington-reliquary-art-installation

Recent Exhibitions & Presentations. Mt Waddington Reliquary – Art Installation. Installation at Francine Seders Gallery. In Medieval and Renaissance Europe, reliquaries were created to house a relic, usually a body part of a saint. Many cultures have a version of this; Buddhist stupas hold the bones of lamas and rempoches, Greek tombs held vials of blood, even the Egyptian pyramids are a form of reliquary. The relics are recognized as sacred and honored as such. At the University of Washington. They ...

Meet greet rinse repeat. Do You See Me? This little happy face is a digital hieroglyphic of the future. Where we study the early cave drawings of the Cro-Magnon, the three-key happy face is the crude beginning of our online, text-based art world. Who invented the winking happy face, anyway? The Vital 5 Cookbook. Should we be cynical or hopeful? I am approaching this project with a sense of anticipation and wonder. What will my collaborators and I say to each other? What will our work say as whole? Photo ...

Feeling Better Now!

Saturday, December 29, 2012. It's Not the Number of Breaths We Take. This was written by the comedian, George Carlin. It places in perspective, what are the most important things in life. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. Remembe...
