Sunday, August 28, 2005. An awful movie ran through my head twice while I heaped criticism on the no-talent woman who wrote it. Then I woke up and realized, to my chagrin, that since I dreamt it, I’m the fool who wrote it. A wire comes in from IFS that thermal underwear is banned in some country for safety reasons. The main woman, let’s call her Nini, processes the incoming story but finds it quickly retracted and suppressed. What’s the import? That remains a mystery. To tell the truth? The site also cal...

Wednesday, April 20, 2005. Esuvee ads. On the media on the media. When I first saw them, I thought the "esuvee" ads glorified those noxious vehicles; other than that I couldn't guess what the ads are for. A friend of mind had the opposite reaction, and thought the ads were against SUVs and making fun of those who drive them. How does the media interpret these ads? CBS News: Safe SUV Driving No Accident. Blog: SUV PSAs esuseekay. BizJournal: Ad campagin warns of SUV risks. Sunday, April 17, 2005. In 2000 ...

Friday, March 11, 2005. Today I am a Monkey Performing Personal Maintenance. The gorillas in the zoo move limb to limb along their artificial trees, and stay put to sleep, chew grass stalks, or observe eachother and their guests. I read their various faces: contemplative, conniving, content. To stay in one place and chew grass. To while the day delousing one's self and one's companions. Sunday, July 17, 2005. It makes me nostalgic. I see all these young married people who cannot afford to spend too much on diapers.". Ha ha ha. slice a life. Posted by fragments of angry candy at 2:43 AM. Wednesday, July 06, 2005. Adventures, part two. Now I've spent the past two hours obsessing about gum disease over the internet. Satiated, I want to share what I've learned. Except for the wisdom teeth issue, I got off easy this last dental visit; she just admonished me to floss in earnest, and make one ...

Thursday, October 13, 2005. I must be as or more self-centered than anyone I know. Like Opinions at the ready, a tap-me type font, oh not typeface though I like the possibility for misread, I mean the water kind, but no guarantee to be good for one's health. I talk too much. I wonder if anyone notices. Is on to me, or cares. I have a finite bag of anecdotes, and this is one of them; haven't brought it out in awhile. They're like my photographs, keepsakes, or a big nerd's stamp collection. My mind is me s...

Wednesday, February 23, 2005. Why Teach for America Sucks. The Onion had a jokey article about starry-eyed enthnic studies majors being embittered by the Teach For America program. I see ads for it all over campus at U Mich. My sister, an LA urban school teacher in it for the long haul, shares insight on why TFA is not just bad for participants, but bad for urban schools:. 1) insufficient training and support in schools where there is already little support. Saturday, January 15, 2005. Inspired by Jasun, I will math-blog. In keeping with my resolutions, I shouldn't spend too much time math-blogging rather than math-doing. Succinct entries give the appearance that I'm time-efficient, but in truth I agree with Mark Twain's observation that it takes tremendous time to achieve brevity. No, one last note, on the real fear. Do I just like being an amateur, in learning's earliest stages? I don't know but I'm hanging in there. Monday, January 10, 2005. New analogy (...

Friday, November 18, 2005. S-21, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. My sister writes from Cambodia, moved by a visit to S21. I felt the same in 2002, and tried to put it into words:. Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Probably ordinary rigor mortis of the face, but one imagines their exuberance at meeting long-withheld death. The postmortem photographs are smile after smile. But I was most moved by the faces of the living. Here am I, this was my life, every prisoner had to say, after which their clothes and humanity would be stri...
