Achieving the ideal…knot | Trilby terror

Is elegance out of date yet? Achieving the ideal…knot. Posted by Steve McEvoy. Asymp; Leave a comment. Judging by the men I work with and travel with, a well-knotted tie is an anachronism and an irrelevance. However, it is something I have been striving for since I took a greater interest in 2009. It is the achievement of that arc that has foxed me for a couple of years. I would get as far as tieing a reasonable dimple, but could not get the knot firm enough to stand out from the collar. The knot is an i...

I said to myself the other day “When did that disappear? 8221; I noticed an Asian man on the bus with dyed hair and a side parting. No other man, including me, had a side parting. Or any parting at all. Was it a consequence of punk, new romantics, rave culture or what? Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Is elegance out of date yet? Posted by Steve McEvoy. Asymp; Leave a comment. Last year I was concerned that interview panels might not approve of a moustache in the making so I was not part of ‘Movember’. Today I have three days growth uner my nose. But what style should it be? What style of a moustache? I was told today that a donation depended on the moustache having curled up waxed ends that could be twirled like a silent film villain. Of course, it does depend on how thick it turns out. For a...You a...

Is elegance out of date yet? At some stage, most of the things you love will go. Posted by Steve McEvoy. Asymp; Leave a comment. It is natural to be attached to family and friends, and when they leave the pain never really goes. But what about places or organisations? That’s it. That’s what my ward meeting felt. Stale. Now, let’s see what I can do to freshen it up! Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:.

Uncommon shoes | Trilby terror

Is elegance out of date yet? Posted by Steve McEvoy. Asymp; Leave a comment. The next time you are waiting in a queue, or in a public place, take a look at people’s shoes. Especially men’s shoes. Most men are pretty insoucient about their shoes. Many of those who work in offices and shops settle for the default black mocassins. Others prefer shoes designed for sport or hill walking, and I suggest those with velcro closures never learned to tie shoelaces. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. You are commenti...

Is elegance out of date yet? While I wasn’t paying attention, a new kind of worker emerged. Posted by Steve McEvoy. Asymp; Leave a comment. It has taken five interviews and several assessments in the course of my job-seeking to realise that the ‘de-layering’ of management in the public sector has created the need for a new kind of worker. I had not appreciated this until a moment of insight. Here is how I think it happened. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Notify me of new co...

Is elegance out of date yet? Character study: a man obsessed with wearing bow ties. Posted by Steve McEvoy. Asymp; Leave a comment. Selwyn Crisp-Nott is no commonplace thoracic surgeon. As any of his grateful patients will tell you, their cheery smiles soon subside once he bats away their praise with a slim hand and begins to enthuse about his love, no, obsession, for bow ties. They would not be surprised to learn that all his pyjamas have proper collars and button up to the neck. Selwyn will have prepar...

You know he’s back from university next week. I’ll be about an hour. I caught her peeved expression as my slippers scuffed down the stairs. Yes Angie.
