Mister Dad: March 2013
http://dadmaker.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 15, 2013. What amazes me is the fact that he kept painting. No one at the time liked his work. Yet without any praise or compensation he kept on painting. He created over 2000 works of art in 10 years! Could you honestly say you'd do the same? Could you spend your life doing something even if you never got so much as a "good job" for doing it? Mister Dad: April 2013
http://dadmaker.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 19, 2013. I'd like to introduce Carmen. Them This is the part that troubles me because I don't want to. I know what would have to take place for that to happen and I feel guilty for it. The guilt isn't because I don't want my kids to suffer. Don't think for a moment that I think good parenting requires an ill child. Kids not getting cancer is a good thing. No, my guilt comes from the fact that I'm. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
Mister Dad: Condolences
http://dadmaker.blogspot.com/2012/12/condolences.html
Friday, December 14, 2012. I was going to make a post today, sharing my thoughts on the media's representation of fathers. In light of today's news, however, I think it probably best if postpone that in favor of admonishing dads and parents to love their kids and to squeeze and hug them everyday. I wish I had some thought provoking or sublime prose that could mend or make sense of the shootings in Connecticut. I am at a loss for words and my heart aches. December 15, 2012 at 10:20 PM.
Mister Dad: January 2013
http://dadmaker.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 31, 2013. Dads are incompetent. Its a fact. I mean, you don't actually think they can parent as well as a mother can, do you? There is loads of evidence that suggests that fathers are at best curmudgeons and at worst imbecilic buffoons. Lets look at this evidence. and by evidence, I mean TV. My 6 year old daughter has taken to watching reruns of the TV classic Leave it to Beaver. Homer Simpson ( The Simpsons. Peter Griffin ( Family Guy. Check Leave the parenting up to the wives? You kno...

ASPIE STRATEGY: Adult Autism, Avoidance and Depression
http://www.aspiestrategy.com/2013/04/adult-autism-avoidance-and-depression.html
Helping each other enjoy life and relationships on the spectrum. Saturday, April 27, 2013. Adult Autism, Avoidance and Depression. In my work with adults on the spectrum I help adult clients take a look at a big theme: avoidance. Avoidance is a theme, but not a constant pattern. I've worked with many clients who, once they're interested in a task or problem, are the hardest workers I've ever known. Most determine that it must be a character failing. What other reason could there be? This does make sense&...

ASPIE STRATEGY: 1/25/15 - 2/1/15
http://www.aspiestrategy.com/2015_01_25_archive.html
Helping each other enjoy life and relationships on the spectrum. Thursday, January 29, 2015. Adults, Autism and Snipping. We’ve probably all heard about (or felt) imposter syndrome. In my work with adults on the spectrum, I notice that many of my clients struggle with some version of it. Even those who have achieved success in academic, professional, financial, and even social contexts struggle privately with the sense that none of it is real. This is not necessarily a neurological reality (though I woul...
ASPIE STRATEGY: Loving Your Introverted Husband with Asperger's
http://www.aspiestrategy.com/2011/11/loving-your-introverted-husband-with.html
Helping each other enjoy life and relationships on the spectrum. Saturday, November 26, 2011. Loving Your Introverted Husband with Asperger's. My husband zones out if too much is going on! He's always focusing on details other people don't care about! It's like he needs to hibernate after a party! Am I the only one with social needs around here? So what to do? Can an introvert be coached to behave as an extrovert? My opinion.is a resounding NO! So why do partners guilt or shame their introverted partners?
ASPIE STRATEGY: Adults on the Spectrum - and the Ted Bundy Question
http://www.aspiestrategy.com/2014/04/adults-on-spectrum-and-ted-bundy.html
Helping each other enjoy life and relationships on the spectrum. Sunday, April 20, 2014. Adults on the Spectrum - and the Ted Bundy Question. I have heard – many times – from new clients, as they try to explain their predicament, sentences like this:. I am not like Ted Bundy – but I could be.". This is the case for many clients. They find another path for managing their ethics in the moment – sometimes these look like the “rules” so often mentioned in ASD literature. As I’ve written before, I often...
ASPIE STRATEGY: Adults on the Spectrum: These are your Feet on Asperger's
http://www.aspiestrategy.com/2013/02/adults-on-spectrum-these-are-your-feet.html
Helping each other enjoy life and relationships on the spectrum. Sunday, February 24, 2013. Adults on the Spectrum: These are your Feet on Asperger's. What emerges after working with so many adults on the spectrum are patterns. But for this short post I’d like to focus on one rather endearing trend: what adult clients do with their feet. After seeing lots and lots of adults on the spectrum I couldn’t help but notice how they tend to sit. Cary Terra, M.A., LMFT. February 24, 2013 at 12:09 PM. Funny and a ...
ASPIE STRATEGY: The Outsourcing of Emotions: Adults on the Autism Spectrum
http://www.aspiestrategy.com/2013/12/the-outsourcing-of-emotions-adults-on.html
Helping each other enjoy life and relationships on the spectrum. Tuesday, December 3, 2013. The Outsourcing of Emotions: Adults on the Autism Spectrum. What gets repressed will be expressed. Not by you – but by your partner. There’s this interesting phenomenon I notice amongst couples I work with. It involves emotions, and how partners work together to manage unmanageable emotion loads. As you probably know, lots of clients on the spectrum describe feeling “flat”, or emotionless. They may spend time thic...
ASPIE STRATEGY: Asperger Syndrome and Central Coherence Theory
http://www.aspiestrategy.com/2009/11/asperger-syndrome-and-central-coherence.html
Helping each other enjoy life and relationships on the spectrum. Thursday, November 5, 2009. Asperger Syndrome and Central Coherence Theory. What is central coherence, and how can different drives for central coherence affect communication? Allow me to share a vignette:. Shari and Kevin have just celebrated Thanksgiving. Q: Which person is telling the truth? Q: Which is more valid, her perspective or his? People with ASD often have difficulties with central coherence. Central coherence can be describ...
ASPIE STRATEGY: ASPERGER'S AND PARTNERS: THE 98 PERCENTER
http://www.aspiestrategy.com/2012/11/aspergers-and-partners-98-percenter.html
Helping each other enjoy life and relationships on the spectrum. Friday, November 9, 2012. ASPERGER'S AND PARTNERS: THE 98 PERCENTER. In working with lots of couples in which one partner is on the spectrum, I cannot help but notice that many Aspies are coupled with highly relational people. Perhaps this seems a common phenomenon – opposites do attract, after all. But in these cases, partners seem more than just “opposites”. Often extroverted, or a socially extroverted introvert. Sometimes this level of o...

Mister Dad
Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Despite our knowledge of its importance we still fail to do so - far more than we should. Married couples who were told that the most important thing in a relationship is communication still get divorced. Millions of dollars are spent on counselors whose job is really just a professional communicator. Don't we all know how to communicate? We learn how to speak, how to read and write. Doesn't this mean we all know how to communicate? Honey, you feeling okay? Who is best at get...
