Road Tripping: An Ultimate Set of Tools
http://hotelvanblanc.blogspot.com/2009/03/i-was-out-last-night-at-laugh-factory.html
A Frankenstein's Monster of a Decade on the Run. Saturday, March 7, 2009. An Ultimate Set of Tools. I was out last night at the Laugh Factory. Good show. Dane Cook emerged as the special guest and did a solid set, wearing some white-leather jacket with two twisting red dragons on it and it made me think he was channeling Will Ferrell's talent via Frank the Tank and Big Earl. People aren't from LA; I myself only moved here in June. If only someon's dad was a television repair man. That dark Friday, some p...

World Cup Crystal Ball: Day 27 (and non-Days 25 and 26, sorry! July 8, 2014. I took a little break and didn’t post for the past two non-Days. I’m carrying on under the assumption that you’ll eventually forgive me. Saturday was huge. The Netherlands-Costa Rica game was as exciting as the Argentina-Belgium game wasn’t. It’s the latter that earned me a whopping 9 points for my correct score line prediction, though; I only got 1.5 from Holland’s pk victory. Brian’s Prediction Points Tally = 53.5. You are com...

World Cup Crystal Ball: Day 31 (and non-Days 29 and 30). July 11, 2014. It’s incredible to think that we’ve already reached the final weekend of the tournament, the last two games of World Cup action until Russia 2018. I’m not going to write much today, as it’s the third place game and mostly meaningless. To start, though, I earned 0 points with Argentina’s win over the Netherlands, so my count remains the same. Brian’s Prediction Points Tally = 57.5. Brazil 3 : 1 Netherlands. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

World Cup Crystal Ball: Day 24. July 5, 2014. It’s a holiday weekend, so I won’t take up too much of you time. First, I get 3 points for the Germany win. Brian’s Prediction Points Tally = 42. Second, Brazil finally turned up, sad as it was to watch Colombia go. Argentina 1 : 0 Belgium. I would like to be wrong for two reasons: 1) Belgium are slightly more fun to watch; 2) I hope there are actually a million goals. Does this picture count as a strength or weakness for the Dutch? World Cup Crystal Ball: non-Days 21 and 22. July 2, 2014. Julian Green scored with his first touch in his first World Cup game. The only thing that makes me sad is that Tim Howard likely won’t be our goalkeeper four years from now. Brad Guzan is a kick-ass keeper, though, and hopefully he’ll be able to fill Timmy Howard’s big gloves when the time comes. World Cup Russia 2018. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. World Cup Crystal Ball: Day 32, The Final! July 13, 2014. We’ve reached the final of the 2014 World Cup! What a great World Cup it’s been, definitely the most exciting that I’ve witnessed! It’s been a whirlwind month that has seen an incredible number of goals, as well as goals of incredible quality. This one’s my favorite. Germany face Argentina in what should be an incredibly exciting game. Will Thomas Müller be the hero? Let’s get right down to it, shall we? Germany 3 : 0 Argentina. Noreply@blogger...

Poetry Fun and Some Sonnets and Such | Brian McGackin

Poetry Fun and Some Sonnets and Such. July 17, 2014. The World Cup may be over (that Germany win pushed me to 62.5 points, a mere 1.5 short of my goal), but I’ve still got plenty to write about. On Tuesday I posted my usual weekly poem over on 5×500. This week’s sonnet, “ Pool. 8221; is actually a bit more poetic than my normal output. Also, this morning marked the return of my bi-monthly poetry column for LitReactor, “Poetry Fun-0-1.” The topic: American poets. God Bless the U.S.A. Noreply@blogger.c...
