At the turn of the century David’s grandfather, Sydney began his business Beales. Engineering Mechanics Shop in Hunslet. Leeds, situated next door to Robert Blackburn (better known in later years as Blackburn Aircraft). Apart from the manufacture of gas engines he was also servicing and repairing Daimler charabanc, buses and lorries. David’s father, Stanley, was also an engineer until WW2 and after the war ran a 1937 16.2 hp Mulliner. Keen members of the Daimler and Lanchester. Apprentice of the Year .
