Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Part II of a Week Off (very belatedly). Yes, I know it's been two weeks since I posted. My apologies! Things suddenly picked up here as I started having basketball games, formal events, and visitors on top of the usual reading and essays. But let's start back at the second half of the week I had off a few weeks ago. I saw Kyle off on Sunday night, did some resting and reading on Monday and Tuesday, and left for London to see Laura Getz on Tuesday afternoon! On Wednesday morning...

Daisy Miller, American Girl: June 2009

http://www.daisymillerag.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 29, 2009. A Few More Pictures. Proof that mom and I climbed the duomo! Feast day of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of Florence. They open the main cathedral doors (a rare event) and the Baptistery's Gates of Paradise for a procession. The red fleur de lis on the flag is the symbol of Florence. Burano, the Venetian island where they make lace. Very colorful houses, very leaning bell tower. Back in Florence, I'm a little bit obsessed with the Arno. Monday, June 22, 2009. Still trying to fi...

Saturday, November 14, 2009. First Half of a Week Off. Just in case it was him, which it was, thank goodness. He told me he was thinking about stretching out on the park bench near where he was standing in the next few minutes if he didn't seem me. Good thing we found each other! More on that later, in the interest of keeping this post of a manageable length. Thursday, November 5, 2009. I WILL get back on a more regular posting schedule, I promise. Ok, that's enough for now. This weekend Kyle is comi...

Monday, October 19, 2009. On a lighter note, this weekend was a lot of fun. I gave the Latin grace for the first time at formal hall on Thursday and I didn't get ridiculed for it! First Milton tutorial is tomorrow at 9 o'clock - wish me luck! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Daisy Miller, American Girl. In and Out of Oxford. View my complete profile.

Daisy Miller, American Girl: May 2009

http://www.daisymillerag.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 27, 2009. In 1878, Henry James created the literary archetype of the "American girl abroad" with the publication of a novella called. Daisy found herself so transformed that returning to the States was inconceivable for her, a sentiment very much on my mind as I prepare to leave for Italy at the end of the week. I hope to be updating this on a fairly regular basis with pictures and stories from my travels. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Daisy Miller, American Girl. View my complete profile.

koinonia: October 2009

http://steflenz.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

I am a part of all that I have met. Friday, October 30, 2009. A lot of people in medicine right now are really pushing the idea of personalized care, meaning that we can sequence everyone’s DNA genome and therefore know exactly what disease they have, what kind of medication would work best, in what amount, and what kind of effect it will have. There are some great benefits to this! Who would have access to the genomic info of another person? So to return back to Jonathan’s initial questions, havin...

I am a part of all that I have met. Tuesday, May 26, 2009. There are many, but here are a few things I've learned, or at least thought more about, over the last year:. 2) God's plan is always good, but that doesn't mean it isn't sometimes terrifying. I spent a solid two weeks feeling almost convinced that God was calling me into full time ministry rather then med school. 8) Voicing expectations of others, and needs for myself is necessary to healthy relationships. 10) People pleasing is dangerous ground ...

I am a part of all that I have met. Monday, October 5, 2009. Stolen Bikes and Starbucks Seats. And I gave him some medical fact before going on. It's tov, very tov! Thanks for this thoughtful post, Stef! I didnt know your bike got stolen. Thats terrible! I think it should be routine for people with decently-priced bikes to buy insurance which covers theft. That way it wouldnt be such a big deal if one got stolen. October 6, 2009 at 11:22 AM. October 6, 2009 at 6:53 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

http://steflenz.blogspot.com/2009/09/ambulence-sirens.html

I am a part of all that I have met. Monday, September 14, 2009. I live a little under a mile away from Howard University Hospital. One of the things this particular hospital is known for is its excellent trauma department. I hear ambulances with blaring sirens going down the main street near my apartment all the time. At least one per hour, I would estimate, and sometimes more depending on the day and time. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Fables of the reconstruction.

http://steflenz.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

I am a part of all that I have met. Thursday, July 2, 2009. Lateral Lines and Panda Bears. Have you ever seen a big school of fish swim. They all swim together, making the slightest turns in perfect unison. They can do this because they have a sense organ called the lateral line that detects vibration and movement in the water. This way, fish avoid collisions and orient themselves with the flow of the current. Why can't people walk more orderly? Imagine that said in a mixed tone of sarcasm and whine).

http://steflenz.blogspot.com/2009/09/bright-lights.html

I am a part of all that I have met. Wednesday, September 2, 2009. In an effort to focus on the blessings I have/am being given, and to remember how God defines himself for us as being always enough, here are some "bright lights" from daily life in DC. (this is in opposition to the moping around that I've been doing recently). Sunrise at 6:08 am. True, it is early. But I enjoy my morning time of drinking coffee, reading some Words, and getting ready to face the day. This is probably my favorite part of th...

http://steflenz.blogspot.com/2010/01/i-just-finished-watching-new-years.html

I am a part of all that I have met. Friday, January 1, 2010. Flash Forward: medical technology and life abundant. I'm drawn back to the same tension I've thought, blogged, and talked about before. The process of researching, discovering, and inventing new technology also teaches us new things about ourselves, the world, and environment (and, I would say, sometimes even about our God). But I don't think that new technology is always the answer. I don't think that changing our genes is necessarily bett...

I am a part of all that I have met. Friday, June 12, 2009. Tennis ball fuzz and surf wax. Playing tennis and being at the beach for the last week reminded me of the reasons why I love tennis and surfing.so here's a random fun post about that. Things I love about tennis. The sound and smell of opening a fresh can of balls. Ball fuzz, and how it gets everywhere (in the soles of my shoes, between racket strings.etc). The squeaking sound of tennis shoes as they scurry to hit the ball. The science of waves (b...
