The Dalhousie Review

As the winter holidays approach and I rush in circles doing mad battle against looming deadlines, interminable traffic and an inevitable cold, I am sustained by the promise of a few dozey late-December afternoons in which eggnog and pajamas will feature prominently. And so, I was filled with delight upon discovering John Tagliabue’s poem “When Sometimes Awkwardness is Almost Fitting.”.” Here it is:. In his lively, thoughtful essay about Tagliabue, Gary Grieve-Carlson. Subscribe to the Dalhousie Review.

The Dalhousie Review - Current Issue

http://dalhousiereview.dal.ca/current.html

I remember being scandalized when I first watched the procession of fourteen-year-olds quietly singing Led Zeppelin as they ascended into the attic by torchlight. But now, in the age of internet porn, Ashley Madison and Tinder, there is something decidedly old-fashioned and even endearing about the memory of a gaggle of boys reading dirty magazines in a dusty attic. Thanks so much to the always judicious and deeply thoughtful Ian Colford for judging this year’s contest. CD. First-prize short story winner).

Between the specialized scholarly journal on the one hand, and the popular press on the other. He believed that serious thinkers in different fields of enquiry could and should write about their concerns in such a way as to make them comprehensible to any educated reader. Stewart edited The Dalhousie Review. In the fifty-year period following Stewart's resignation (1947-97), The Dalhousie Review. Daniel Perry Fiction: January 2013

http://danielperryfiction.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 20, 2013. Reading Journal: Got No Secrets. By Danila Botha (2011). As someone whose first book is a collection of linked short stories, I put Matthew Firth's review of Got No Secrets. In his magazine, Front and Centre. And why does every narrator seem to like the same punk bands? Thursday, January 17, 2013. Reading Journal: Fault Lines. By Nancy Huston (2006). Daniel Perry Fiction: October 2012

Monday, October 22, 2012. No, I have not abandoned my first book in favour of a new project called Capsular Dispatches from a Library Addict. In fact, things are going quite well:. I'll be reading my featured story "Eyesore" at the launch party for Sterling Mag. 3 this Thursday, October 25 at No One Writes to the Colonel (460 College St., Toronto). Daniel Perry Fiction: March 2013

http://danielperryfiction.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 17, 2013. Reading Journal: The Lottery. By Shirley Jackson (1948). Thursday, March 7, 2013. Reading Journal: Snowball, Dragonfly, Jew. By Stuart Ross (2011). A short, episodic novel written in Ross's trademark, all-over-the-place style that takes you through the coming-of-age of its narrator and into his later life, where he is continuously confronted with a memory of his mother committing a murder. I preferred this novel to his short story collection, Buying Cigarettes for the Dog. 2 March...

Daniel Perry Fiction: Reading Journal: A Visit from the Goon Squad, by Jennifer Egan (2010)

http://danielperryfiction.blogspot.com/2013/07/reading-journal-visit-from-goon-squad.html

Sunday, July 7, 2013. Reading Journal: A Visit from the Goon Squad. By Jennifer Egan (2010). The book's dizzying but not difficult, pushing at the limits of form while still telling an entertaining story, and it's one I'll probably read again. I'm not sure I was amazed, but I can see why people think there's something special here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Toronto, ON, Canada. The Prairie Journal of Canadian Literature. Daniel Perry Fiction: August 2013

http://danielperryfiction.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 18, 2013. Reading Journal: Collected Novellas. By Gabriel Garcia Marquez (1990). My first foray into the rarefied air around this Nobel winner, the collection contains three novellas: Leaf Storm. 1955); No One Writes to the Colonel. 1961) and Chronicle of a Death Foretold. I hear), and, most interestingly to me, a persistent sense that death is always in the room. My favourite - and Marquez's, too, (Wikipedia again) - was Leaf Storm. Sunday, August 11, 2013. Reading Journal: April Fools Day.

Sunday, April 28, 2013. Reading Journal: Londoners: The Days and Nights of London Now - As Told by Those Who Love It, Hate It, Live It, Left It and Long for It. By Craig Taylor (2011). Sunday, April 7, 2013. Reading Journal: The Obvious Child. By Matt Shaw (2007). Thursday, April 4, 2013. Reading Journal: Stay Awake. By Dan Chaon (2012). Sunday, August 11, 2013. Reading Journal: April Fools Day. By Josip Novakovich (2005). Daniel Perry Fiction: Reading Journal: The Journey Prize Stories 16 (2004)

http://danielperryfiction.blogspot.com/2013/09/reading-journal-journey-prize-stories.html

Thursday, September 12, 2013. Reading Journal: The Journey Prize Stories 16. Selected by a trio of writers who have since become CanLit royalty - Elizabeth Hay, Lisa Moore and Michael Redhill - I might have anticipated that I wouldn't love these stories; I despised Late Nights on Air.
