How to Train Your Dragon (Chris Sanders and Dean DuBlois, 2010). Another overpraised mainstream movie I didn't get, I suppose. I thought it was a big boring mess. The animation feels as wooden and lifeless as the inconsequential plot. It occurs to me that the one curious thing about the movie is there weren't any adult female characters. Beasts of the Southern Wild and the State of the Oscar Slate. I put off watching BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD because I was worried it would fail to meet my expectations. My suspicions were confirmed tonight. It's an interesting movie, worth watching, one would say, but I'm not sure it quite lived up to its potential. Les Mis reviews and Tom Hooper. I keep seeing this mixed reviews about how people liked the acting and such in Les Miserables. But Tom Hooper's direction has all the delicacy of any exercise involving a sledgehammer. Tom Hooper? You don't say. I guess they were all drunk when they saw the infernal The King's Speech.
