Satellite Eclectica: July 2010

Inspired by Walt Dangerfield". Sunday, July 11, 2010. Faith No More @ Mann Music Center 7/3/10. Courtesy of Marcus Darpino. As much as I would like it to be, Washington DC is not the live-music center of the universe. Sometimes to see that special show I have to hop on a jet, castaway on a boat, or hit the road as I did this past weekend to catch one of the limited East Coast reunion shows by Faith No More. Satellite Eclectica: July 2007
http://satellite-eclectica.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Inspired by Walt Dangerfield". Wednesday, July 4, 2007. Greater Than One - Index. Genre: Industrial - Dance. Highlight Track: " Dubkiller. Is a nice meditative EP. Industrial pranksters Greater Than One that focuses more on the electro. Than the industrial and tones down their usual reliance on mile-a-minute samples by instead doling them out with restraint. I am tempted to call this their ambient EP. Fortunately for us the rest of the EP. Makes for great listening. As I mentioned before Index. Which sim...

Satellite Eclectica: May 2007
http://satellite-eclectica.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
Inspired by Walt Dangerfield". Thursday, May 31, 2007. Talking Heads- Remain In Light. Highlight Tracks: "Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)", "Listening Wind", "The Overload". As much as I love the memories of my youth, when listening to albums like this I sometimes wish I could trade in my BJ and The Bear. Afternoons to have been in college during the original Punk/Post-Punk period. Music then was so frigging weird and exciting; you never knew what somebody was going to cook up next. This whole damn...

Satellite Eclectica: The Golden Filter @ DC9 6/18/10
http://satellite-eclectica.blogspot.com/2010/06/golden-filter-dc9-61810.html
Inspired by Walt Dangerfield". Sunday, June 20, 2010. The Golden Filter @ DC9 6/18/10. On Friday night, DC9. Mainstay, Liberation Dance Party. Brought in New York's The Golden Filter. For a special appearance to amp up the already crazy dance party LDP hosts week after week. Unsurprisingly, the result was an even crazier dance party. The Golden Filter delivered a killer set of sexy electro-pop to a packed house eager to dance, dance, dance! So they dived head-first into their one-song encore, performing ...

Satellite Eclectica: Silversun Pickups @ DAR Constitution Hall 6/23/10

Inspired by Walt Dangerfield". Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Silversun Pickups @ DAR Constitution Hall 6/23/10. This was one of those concerts that make me love my job. Attitude and their genuine appreciation for their fans, that keeps this huge-sounding band grounded and endears them to the listener. When watching Silversun Pickups perform you find yourself rooting for them to succeed while they proceed to melt your face off with their massive, alt-rock attack. Silversun Pickups are the Smashing Pumpkins.

Satellite Eclectica: June 2007
http://satellite-eclectica.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Inspired by Walt Dangerfield". Tuesday, June 26, 2007. The Exploited - Horror Epics. Highlight Tracks: "No More Idols", "Don't Forget The Chaos", "Race Against Time". Weak Tracks: "Down Below". Is a great album that doesn't get the credit it deserves. The Exploited have a very strong early catalog and this album at the extreme end of their heyday gets glossed over as their transition from punk to thrash. But that's not what it is. Horror Epics. First of all, musicianship has never been the Exploited's.

A historical essay I wrote about the United States' involvement in the infamous "scramble for Africa" in the Nineteenth century. Fans of "King's Leopold's Ghost" by Adam Hochschild.
