You stopped giving Christmas gifts to make a point about consumerism. You're superior to everyone who still gives gifts. You and your family didn't exchange gifts this year because your children were acting ungrateful. You're superior to those of us who wouldn't take it that far, and your children will never behave in an ungrateful manner again.
