Day in the Life of a Dancer

Day in the Life of a Dancer. Sunday, July 17, 2011. I've been inundated with fear lately: fear of the unknowns in my life. For the last year, I have worked seven days a week a one job or another or both (or three), rehearsed five or six days a week, and had some sort of performance every three weeks or so. I'm beginning to realize that this extreme lifestyle is not sustainable. How can I allow myself to sacrifice a lot of money for art? I'm still sorting things out, and I'm starting to become concerned.

Day in the Life of a Dancer: Daydreams and Rants

http://danceinchicago.blogspot.com/2011/03/daydreams-and-rants.html

Day in the Life of a Dancer. Wednesday, March 23, 2011. This is exactly how I dreamed my life would be. Working with wonderful people everyday who continue to inspire me. Surrounded by artists, a community that is supportive rather than competitive. Struggling to make ends meet, but surviving (and dare I say, thriving). I feel blessed to be working with such wonderful people - the partners at NorthSide. Dance Theater, company and co-op of IDC. And dancers of GIA. I have had a couple fundraisers so far th...

Day in the Life of a Dancer: June 2010

http://danceinchicago.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Day in the Life of a Dancer. Monday, June 28, 2010. I started a few new things last week, and I'm looking forward to how they'll go this week too. This class just makes me feel awesome. I don't know any of the other students, and the subject matter is definitely out of my comfort zone. I'm also surprised at how weak it made me feel, so hopefully I'll gain more upper body strength. It's a challenge all around. And solo character work. I thought I would have been more self- conscious. It's a good thing tha...

Day in the Life of a Dancer: May 2011

http://danceinchicago.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Day in the Life of a Dancer. Sunday, May 15, 2011. So sorry I haven't posted in nearly two months! In that time, I performed in GI Alliance's spring show, performed in festivals with Renegade Dance Architects, produced and performed in Innervation Dance Cooperative's. Spring show, and produced the IDC. After school dance club's show. I've clearly been a little busy. It's been a wonderful beginning to spring, and the work hasn't stopped. The day after closing the IDC. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Redhead at Home: Throw Pillow Thursday - Part 2

http://laurietheredhead.blogspot.com/2011/04/throw-pillow-thursday-part-2.html

Thursday, April 21, 2011. Throw Pillow Thursday - Part 2. Soon after writing my earlier post, I realized that I never shared my completed button throw pillow here. Here's a look back at how I got to a finished product (more details and pictures can be seen here. Supplies used were 14" x 14" squares of fabric dyed a purple-y gray, 14" gray zipper, white paint, paintbrush, printout of the number 3, white thread (not pictured), and lots and lots of buttons. Sweetly Spoken by Laurie. View my complete profile.

The Redhead at Home: Shelving Unit - Part II

http://laurietheredhead.blogspot.com/2011/06/shelving-unit-part-ii.html

Wednesday, June 01, 2011. Shelving Unit - Part II. I've put some more decorative items on the shelving unit that Matt built. Since we have a lot of books (think boxes and boxes of books) and nowhere else to put them (.yet), this shelving unit became home to a lot of books. Also on there are (from the top shelf down):. IKEA candleholders, picture frame; Target mix and match lamp and shade, books;. Books, metal grasshoppers that Matt's mom gave us as a housewarming present, even more books;.

The Redhead at Home: Painting Vanities

http://laurietheredhead.blogspot.com/2011/03/painting-vanities.html

Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Our house has the same cabinets in two bathrooms, the kitchen, and extra cabinets in the same style in the basement. Here are the before and afters of the vanity in our small bathroom:. Much improved, no? We ordered the new knobs in bulk and planned to use the same ones for the cabinets in the larger bathroom and for the drawers in the kitchen (coordinating handles are on the cabinets). And here is the before of our bigger bathroom:. Sweetly Spoken by Laurie. Subscribe to: Post...

The Redhead at Home: Throw Pillow Thursday

http://laurietheredhead.blogspot.com/2011/05/throw-pillow-thursday.html

Thursday, May 26, 2011. A Story of Pillow Love. Years ago, while I was in college, I bought a long, gold-striped table runner on clearance at Gordmans for a few bucks. It was the table runner of my dreams. And I got it for a steal. Life was good. Unfortunately, after about a year of living with my dream table runner, a couple of inches of it got ruined during a tragic pumpkin carving incident. Three years after buying my table runner, I graduated college with two placemats still intact. My bed is center...

The Redhead at Home: Lighting

http://laurietheredhead.blogspot.com/2010/03/project-8-lighting.html

Tuesday, March 23, 2010. All of the electrical in the house was a mess when we got in there. Luckily, my grandpa (Papa) is an electrician (as well as 3 of my uncles). He has been instrumental in getting our electricity running like it should. My dad was an electrician too, and, dare I say, I'm not too shabby with basic electrical projects (changing outlets, etc). New kitchen light fixture. I love this fan. Beautiful light, reversible fan blades. Gorgeous! It's so much more my style. Papa putting up the n...

The Redhead at Home: Shelving Unit

http://laurietheredhead.blogspot.com/2011/05/shelving-unit.html

Friday, May 27, 2011. I am so proud of my husband! He finished this beautiful shelving unit for our living room. I am just thrilled with how it looks. 65279;And, here's how he did it:. After it was built, Matt filled in all of the screw holes and edges in with wood filler. When the wood filler was dry, we sanded it down for a nice, smooth surface. I love how it looks. And I love it even more because it was built by my husband's own two hands. This weekend, I'm planning to style it a littl...Subscribe to...

The Redhead at Home: Sewing Room Wall Decor

http://laurietheredhead.blogspot.com/2011/06/sewing-room-wall-decor.html

Thursday, June 02, 2011. Sewing Room Wall Decor. I completed a fast little project for my sewing room earlier this week. I chose this project because I have boxes and boxes of fabric scraps that I hope to use in future projects. Because I already had all of the fabric, this project was under $10 to complete thanks to some 40% off coupons for JoAnn Fabrics. Hot glue and hot glue gun. 65279;After I had figured out what I liked and didn't like in an arrangement, I got to hanging the hoops up on the wall&#46...

Friday, April 01, 2011. I'm all about personalizing everyday decor items. And when I can do it with spray paint, watch out! I first saw this project on Gorgeous Shiny Things. She got the idea from Martha. I already had the mat. I already had the spray paint. I already had the painters tape. And what's better than a quick project that you do not have to do any shopping for? I printed out our address in Word. So easy! Sweetly Spoken by Laurie. April 1, 2011 at 1:55 PM. Dance Incentive

Danceincentive.com has motivational incentives for all sports and students. I finally get to give out my first defensive patch this week to a forward who consistently played strong defense. What a success! Through using the motivational patches, even the kids were telling each other the good things they were doing. The parents seem to really like the patch idea too. Kris, KS. The patches worked great. The kids were proud of their patches and there were lots of comments about them." Rick.
