dancethechanges: day 22: contrast
http://dancethechanges.blogspot.com/2014/12/day-22-contrast.html
We live in a cage of light an amazing cage. Monday, 22 December 2014. A few years ago a friend of mine gave me this amazing antique prosthetic leg because he knows I like old weird stuff. I'm often struck by how, were I missing a leg, this one would be just my size. See what other photographers doing this challenge did for this theme here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). dancethechanges: studio doors finally finished!
http://dancethechanges.blogspot.com/2015/01/studio-doors-finally-finished.html
We live in a cage of light an amazing cage. Saturday, 24 January 2015. Studio doors finally finished! Well it has only taken about a year - which is not too bad in terms of home projects - to get them up and built and I am as in love with them as one can be in love with doors. Forgive the sub-par phone pics, I was excited to share them :-). They still won't keep the cat out, he's small enough he can get underneath, but at least I have a door I can close now! From inside the studio, doors closed.

We live in a cage of light an amazing cage. Thursday, 27 November 2014. Victoria park boardwalk, Charlottetown. Well winter is here. Time to hunker down, plastic the windows, and start a new photo-a-day project! I'll be starting on December 1st and I'll be joined by 5 other photographers so it should be a great time. Tuesday, 18 November 2014. In October, as part of the Island Media Arts Festival. I was invited to mount a reworking of my installation piece, The Sky is Always Moving,. In 2012, I projected...

We live in a cage of light an amazing cage. Monday, 29 September 2014. The fall: my favourite time of year, a time for turning inward, concentrating, resting, bundling up in cozy sweaters. There is also a wonderful film. By that title, and it aptly describes the process of letting go that I'm about to go through tomorrow as I clean out my studio and purge/sell/give-away any and all materials that I haven't used in a year! Looking forward to the extra space - it's been getting crowded in here! Monica Lace...

We live in a cage of light an amazing cage. Monday, 21 April 2014. Well I'm doing alright at this posting once-a-month thing! Here's the news for this month:. I recently competed in Art Battle. 114, here in Charlottetown at the PEI Brewing Company. Which has a gorgeous new event space! It was a pretty interesting - and out-of-my-comfort-zone - experience to paint something in only 20 minutes in front of a huge crowd with dubstep beats blasting and an announcer barking into the mic! The group show, Blooms.

Some adventures in art-making. Please visit the archives or my website to see finished work. I don't know why the end of the winter always makes me feel nostalgic. Maybe it is about waking up from all the deep dreaming I do in the dark months, waking up and remembering the life I lived before winter, and the life still to be lived (can one be nostalgic for the future? How about nostalgia for alternate realities? Maybe we all emerge from winter tender as new leaves. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Some adventures in art-making. Please visit the archives or my website to see finished work. Salmon Books and Bitches Brew. It's a misty, moisty morning in Southwestern Manitoba. I'm listening to Miles Davis and slowly assembling the last four copies of my salmon book. The grey weather and the focus required to cut and fold with precision carve a special, contemplative space out of the middle of the week. So much has happened in the nearly three years since I printed this little book.

Some adventures in art-making. Please visit the archives or my website to see finished work. Oh Bacon, Bacon. I've been playing around with eel imagery for months now, knowing I would soon be collaborating with my sister on an eel poster series, incorporating my images and quotes about eels from Mi'kmaq Elders who have helped her in her thesis research on eels. We finally got down to work last weekend. These posters will be used as gifts, and as educational resources. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my ...

Some adventures in art-making. Please visit the archives or my website to see finished work. I decided last year that I would try to write a blog entry every month. I can't imagine doing this every day, and even once a month seems too often; if I look the other way, focus on something, or forget to check the calendar, the month is gone. As I folded paper and made worms, people asked: does your practice consist of a lot of paper folding? They asked, is this like origami? Residencies (I'm beginning to unde...

Some adventures in art-making. Please visit the archives or my website to see finished work. Texture is a big deal for me these days. I built these pebbles from various kinds of acrylic goo. It has been a time of experiments - but of squeezing art-making into the early morning hours, the evenings and the weekends. Part of me can't wait until winter, to spend cosy nights making lichen quilts like the little sample above, or printing with and without ink as below -. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Some adventures in art-making. Please visit the archives or my website to see finished work. I have a lot of little projects growing at the moment, all at different stages of development. some are merely subtle subconscious stirrings, others actually underway but seemingly perpetually-in-progress. Yet - it all feels right for this time of year. It still looks like winter out there, but underneath the snow and the river ice, all sorts of things are happening. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

We live in a cage of light an amazing cage. Wednesday, 24 June 2015. Well life has changed a lot in the last few months - I had a baby in March, Daria is her name, and she is wonderful :). Motherhood is so far the most challenging and most rewarding project I've ever undertaken - it is incredible to watch a human being come into being! It's leaving me less time to work in the studio but filling me with new inspiration for projects to come - more on that soon. Daria at 3 months. Saturday, 24 January 2015.

Wanna Know What Really Grinds My Gears!
Monday, September 7, 2009. What is wrong with that? I am an American and I can't even tell you what it means to be an American! We have to because that is what it means to be an American. We must clean-up Washington and start over because those in power are not working for their employers-the people-they are working for themselves and that is not only wrong and immoral, it is treacherous! PS sorry for grammatical errors, its late. Thursday, June 25, 2009. The Trip I Would Take If I Had No Moral Values.
