A Stone's Throw and a Century Ago. Beer reviews, Cubs thoughts, and other fatherhood musings. Saturday, December 22, 2012. Any Port in the Storm. No its not storming. No, I am not under duress. The title just worked with the name, so there it is. Just a quickie tonight, don't wanna miss my secondary goal. I'd hate to let myself down again. Again. We're not keeping track though right? Bell's Porter ABV 5.6%. Kalamazoo, Michigan A 24 oz poured into a Redneck Tulip (. O - This is a solid, all-around good be...

A Stone's Throw and a Century Ago. Beer reviews, Cubs thoughts, and other fatherhood musings. Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Ale Trail Bloggers Weekend. A couple weekends ago I had the honor of being invited by the Fayetteville Visitors Bureau. Yeah, I think you can guess how that went. Very nice, and would certainly direct friends and family to this property. We started Friday night off at Fayetteville's answer to the corner pub, Tanglewood Branch Beer Company. PROTIP: Under a year old and full service with lo...

A Stone's Throw and a Century Ago. Beer reviews, Cubs thoughts, and other fatherhood musings. Sunday, February 16, 2014. So this past week has been trying. Lace is in Africa, doing good things. We are here. Middle of America. Trips are no different; nothing new. 2, 3 day trips are the norm. They work. For us. We need. Those trips. We need. Breaks from each other, our personalities dictate that. She is being targeted, derided, or maybe even worse, completely dismissed. The girls- our girls- don't understa...

A Stone's Throw and a Century Ago. Beer reviews, Cubs thoughts, and other fatherhood musings. Thursday, July 24, 2014. The recent trend with 'local everything' is something I try to support and typically enjoy doing. You're helping your community (or a community you are visiting) and supporting small businesses and it feels good. The problem I have with this is.local doesn't always mean better. In this social media age, proprietors should know how they are doing based on customer ratings. It's not ha...

Just Jett: January 2008
http://justjett.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Still, mealtimes are slowly becoming a little less work, except for the fact that they last for so long. Jett and I generally sit at the table together for an hour and a half. After more than an hour of eating dinner tonight I finally cleared away his plate and brought out the ice cream, knowing that he would eat that up quickly and we could get on to playing. The most demanding part of the meal? Links to this post. Monday, January 28, 2008. Links to this post. That the Museu...

A Stone's Throw and a Century Ago. Beer reviews, Cubs thoughts, and other fatherhood musings. Sunday, August 3, 2014. Fast forward to today. I'm about 30 hours from arriving in Denver. I've just finished packing. I'm drinking a Jester King Boxer's Revenge (with some other treats to follow) trying to clear cellar room for what is sure to be a significant haul upon my return. And you know what? I think I may be even more excited. I get to share it with the family. No I promise. We did NOT plan that. I defi...

Just Jett: May 2008
http://justjett.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 20, 2008. It IS a beautiful week. Going a week past my due date is not easy. People have expectations that I have not met. They have schedules that I have complicated. It's hard to walk. When the delivery person asked if I was Amy and handed this to me, I was surprised and delighted. There was no name on the card, but the message was optimistic and happy and comforting. It is the most beautiful bouquet I've ever seen. Thank you, secret-flower-sender. Links to this post. Monday, May 19, 2008.
