Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: Metempsychosis
http://eng213ek.blogspot.com/2009/04/things-are-starting-to-wind-down-for.html
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. This really touches on the idea that souls are trapped in the prison of our bodies, and after death, the soul is freed, but only to be trapped in another body. This has got me thinking, how can we, as humans, take our souls back to a feeling of freedom while we are still living? So, how can I help my soul help itself? Well, I could die. But I'm going to vote NO on that one. At least for a few years. So, is it a hike through Hyalite that helps feed our souls?

Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: The Past Possesses Almost Everything

Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. The Past Possesses Almost Everything. This weekend I decided to take a quick break from the required reading for my classes and read a book that a classmate lent to me,. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I read that and thought, 'Well, of course, man. We Indians have LOST EVERYTHING. We lost our native land, we lost our languages, we lost our songs and dances. We lost each other. We only know how to lose and be lost.' " (172-3). A cartoon from the book:.

Sunday, March 29, 2009. An Imaginary Life: Relationships to Texts and Today. Of immediate notice is the lyrical voice throughout the novel. While still very much prose, the words and sentences flow off the page and, when spoken aloud, slither through the air with grace almost equal to Ovid’s own poetic verse. The elegant yet simple way of telling Ovid’s story lends Malouf a tone very much mythic in feel, just as Ovid’s work portrayed the myths of his culture. Apology, Authors, and Maybe More! First, a di...

Classical Foundations of Lit. - Shoni Schipman: Transformation is the Key
http://engl213sms.blogspot.com/2009/03/transformation-is-key.html
Classical Foundations of Lit. - Shoni Schipman. Sunday, March 29, 2009. Transformation is the Key. 8220;It is that that drives us on to what we must finally become. We have only to conceive of the possibility and somehow the spirit works in us to make it actual. This is the true meaning of transformation. This is the real metamorphosis” (64). Or is the meaning of “classic” something that has rendered to a metamorphosis but is still viewed as a traditional art form despite its transformation?

ENGL 213: April 2009
http://lukeforney.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 29, 2009. An Addendum to the Summation. Monday, April 27, 2009. What have I learned this semester from this class? I lived the classics. Maybe not as much at the beginning, but at the end. The changes in Ovid matched changes in my own life, and the hectic nature of Euripides certainly mirrored some things I was going through (though not nearly to the extent he portrayed, thank God). What did you say? But it's still super special shit. Meghan: Yeah.I know. Eagle-eyed readers may notice th...

Classical Foundations of Lit. - Shoni Schipman: The Past Possesses the Present. . . In Movies
http://engl213sms.blogspot.com/2009/04/past-possesses-present-in-movies.html
Classical Foundations of Lit. - Shoni Schipman. Thursday, April 16, 2009. The Past Possesses the Present. . . In Movies. The first movie I put onto my shelf at home was an old favorite of mine, Legends of the Fall. I didn’t have to reflect long about how this filmed tied into ancient Greek literature. Legends of the Fall is essentially a heart-wrenching story of the feuds amongst brothers. Sound familiar? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). ENGL 213 Blog List. Death is the Mother of Beauty.

Classics: Ah ha!
http://heatherkahly.blogspot.com/2009/04/ah-ha.html
View my complete profile. Over and over again. Sunday, April 12, 2009. I have to tell you about the ah ha! We have been learning about how we need to remember all of these things that we have forgotten by learning the classical texts. At that moment, I remembered something that I had forgotten before I had been born. My world was much more complete and fulfilling. It was an amazing moment and hilarilous at the same time.
