Saturday, June 27, 2009. Nancy's Mardi Gras Gator. My friend and fellow Simpsons Director Nancy Kruse is a big fan of Mardi Gras and loves alligators, so for her birthday one year I surprised here with this little marching alligator. He's made with colored sculpey and glow-in-the-dark sculpey. The confetti, his eyes, and the tassels on his hat and scepter all glow in the dark! The confetti was harder to pull off than you think! His scepter is a colored toothpick baked into his hand. I paid a little more ...

airsurfing: MaquetteProject- entry 13
http://airsurfing.blogspot.com/2011/04/maquetteproject-entry-13.html
Saturday, April 23, 2011. With all the pieces done, all that's left is the paint. I tried to match the colors in Erick's model as closely as I could. After the base was painted, I secured the brass posts into the holes I had set into the sculpey. You can see that the footprints to kinda guide where the figures should go. Rick wanted the base left unfinished, so that was easy. Thanks for checking in. On to bigger and better things. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Denny Goes Airsurfing" (1989).

Saturday, October 16, 2010. Building up the taller guy and roughing out his details this time around. As before, I used simple shapes to start out with and keep refining them until they look like the sketch. I kept comparing everything to the sketch to keep the scale and size relations right. This guy looks like he's really heavy, but remember his torso is full of tinfoil, so he' not really heavy. I had to keep him light because of his skinny legs! DROP AND GIMME TWENTY! Roughed in and now they are not!

Saturday, February 19, 2011. I hope you aren't bored with this project- because I am. The only thing left now is just refining the details and sharpening up lines and stuff. I use dental instruments to tighten up details like around eyes and in between folds in clothes or skin. areas where I just can't reach with sandpaper. Sometimes I'll cut an orange stick in half the long way and make my own sanding sticks to smooth tight areas. All primed in primer gray and ready for some color. VIDEO ENTRY 12 A.

Sunday, December 5, 2010. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving like I did! Sorry I haven't updated earlier but I got carried. Away with other projects and work and family stuff and you know. I baked the upper portion of the tall guy and after showing Erick about some edits, I started finalizing the bottom half of his body and his tiny legs. The legs should be able to hold his weight with the help of the armature wires in them, after they are baked that is. I did some finishing. Links to this post.

Monday, July 5, 2010. Maquette Project- entry 4. And Happy Birthday to my oldest brother! Well, the details have started! I kinda approach sculpting like I do when I'm drawing something. you start rough and continually add and take out what's needed or not until the final shows itself. I haven't mastered doin. Hair yet, so I knew that was going to be a challenge for me. I simply started rough laying in the main structures of his head and face and hair planes, like his eyes and mouth and ears. Notice his a...

Sunday, April 29, 2012. I think this is the first real toy I designed and sculpted! I wanted to give my GF at the time a birthday present and she owned this little pug named Mushu, who had a slight nerve problem that caused his tongue to hang out constantly. It was pretty cute. So I made a toy of him for her! I started by sculpting the whole piece as I normally would. The tail I did as a separate piece because it had to move. I also dug a slot where the mechanism for the moving tail. The tongue I made wi...

Friday, July 31, 2009. Then I got laid off during the writers strike. I had plenty of time to do some things and projects I simply didn't have time for while I was working on the show. I decided to dig out the Burns project. I couldn't find the original sketch I did (I know I have it someplace in some old box of memories), so I drew up a new one with the same look on Burns. I also sketched a side view so I could push the attitude with his posture as well. Indy waits with him. The big red button to "relea...
