Danielle in Rome: September 2009
http://danielleinrome.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 30, 2009. The next part of our trip was the main city we traveled to see - Venice! We woke up early on Saturday and took the bus from our hotel to the center of the city. The first thing we saw was a couple about to get married! I can't think of a better place. We walked just a little bit into the center and got our first glimpse of the Grand Canal. We had to walk through a maze of tiny streets. To find our way to Venice's two main attractions - Ponte Rialto, it's most famous bridge.

Danielle in Rome: Traditional Christmas sweets
http://danielleinrome.blogspot.com/2010/01/traditional-christmas-sweets.html
Tuesday, January 5, 2010. I wrote this post while I was still in Rome, but never got around to publishing it after I got home. Even though the Christmas season is almost over, I didn't want it to go to waste :). During our last week in Rome, my program directors provided us with some traditional Italian Christmas treats - panettone. Golden bread") is another type of sweet bread that is also traditionally eaten around Christmas and New Year's. It is usually shaped like an 8-pointed star and is dusted ...
Danielle in Rome: La Befana
http://danielleinrome.blogspot.com/2010/01/la-befana.html
Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Today, the Epiphany, marks a very special day in Italy. Not only is it the end of the Christmas season, but it also means that last night was marked by a visit from La Befana. La Befana doll at the annual Christmas Market in Piazza Navona. In Italian folklore, La Befana is a (good) witch who delivers gifts to children in Italy on Epiphany Eve (January 5.) Naughty children better watch out though - La Befana only gives presents to good children! The name La Befana.

Mon Séjour au Sénégal
Mon Séjour au Sénégal. Monday, May 4, 2009. My family from Fatick was there, including our new maid, Amie, who is really nice. The kids were belted in, swinging their legs under the seats, squealing with delight out the window, as Senegal disappeared below us. Mame Sanu was smiling with her squinty eyes, pointing out the window to Marie Gabrielle, who was clapping with excitement. What a nice thought. Nearly impossible, but a really nice thought. 8221; “Danielle, begg naa seetan Tom et Jerry! I was think...

Saturday, June 27, 2015. They all have worth. I opened the page and gasped. Staring at me at the top of the page with darting eyes and an angry snare was the mugshot of a kid whose smile instantly popped in my head. Before I even had a chance to read down I knew his name, and I remembered his hugs in the hallway, his frustrated moments in which he would pull me aside and tell me he couldn't calm down. Here was a kid who had every card stacked against him, and the cards won. When I'm asked why I switched ...
