Lydia Johnson: Trimming a Plate
http://lydiaannjohnson.blogspot.com/2014/07/trimming-plate.html
Thursday, July 10, 2014. Here's today video - Trimming a Plate. After I throw plates, I let them sit out for day, flip them over, cover and let the clay moisture equalize during the next day. Its easy to get wonky plates - they must dry slowly and evenly. At minimum, I wait two days until trimming. The consistency of the clay is of hard cheese. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lydia Johnson: September 2013
http://lydiaannjohnson.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 13, 2013. Here are some quiet, yet strong pots coming out of the sales gallery at The Clay Studio in Philadephia, PA. All images are from www.theclaystudio.org). David Eichelberger is currently a resident at Penland. I bought one of his lunch sized plates while I was in there and use it almost everyday. Thousands of hand painted, tiny fading lines live on the the rim of the plate. It has this intangible, quiet, meditative and soulful quality to it that I absolutely adore. I feel like I ...

Lydia Johnson: April 2014
http://lydiaannjohnson.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 11, 2014. I had a great week in the studio this week. Recently, I've been working in "Speckled Brownstone" which is a mid range light brown clay. I fired an entire kiln of work made in this clay a few weeks ago, but it didn't work great with my surface on many of the pieces. It has manganese in it, which gives it a highly speckled surface and looks just like iron spots. I think these cups and saucers are going to have lots of beautiful, runny, colorful glazes layered on top.

Lydia Johnson: March 2014
http://lydiaannjohnson.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 17, 2014. Jars, Pitchers, Platters. The last two weeks I committed to making things other than mugs and I am going to carry that momentum through April as well. This week I worked on jars, pitchers, and oval platters. My surface lately reveals floral elements which I am enjoying, however my next batch of work I am going try to combine my past abstract, lyrical surface and this more stylized floral imagery. Monday, March 3, 2014. Some New Surface Work. Reduced cone 10 firing.

Lydia Johnson: Decorating A Plate
http://lydiaannjohnson.blogspot.com/2014/07/decorating-plate_14.html
Monday, July 14, 2014. It has come to my attention that the videos I've been posting aren't viewable from an iPhone. I saved this video in a different format, so I hope this resolves the issue! If it does, I'll reload the previous videos in this format as well. Here is a quick video on how I create raised surface texture on my work. I use a technique called "slip trailing". Enjoy!
