Gardens, the things in them and some that aren't. Newer posts →. August 9, 2013. August 9, 2013. Plant of the week : Miscanthus oligostachyus. August 8, 2013. This plant would have to be one of our favourites in the DTL office. Also known as “Dwarf Feather Grass”, this is definitely one plant that is best grown in drifts rather than as an individual specimen. Mass planting will definitely showcase it’s beauty. Fuss free and easy to grow, they are ideal for borders or for waterside planting. August 1, 2013.

The Garden Design Chronicle. Monday, April 20, 2009. Snippets from the Garden Show Part 2. AQL's "Food for Thought". Some gardens I find are more likely to bring about this state than others. I think the success of the garden below by. I also liked this garden designed by AQL. I can't help but thinking they might have seen the work of Joost Baaker. Imitation being the best form of flattery. Not sure those apples would last long in the Australian heat espaliered against the galvanised water tanks eith...

A landscape lover's blog. Garden tales from a Brit at home and abroad. Before on this blog I have written about the mysterious French designer Elie Lainé. And about the placing of modern artworks. So I was delighted to see the two come together this Christmas, with the installation. In the grounds of Waddesdon Manor. Contemporary artist Bruce Monro. Placed six large light-based displays in the glorious landscapes of Waddesdon, which were laid out by Lainé in the 1870s. Was not conceived for Waddesdon....

A landscape lover's blog. Garden tales from a Brit at home and abroad. In Rajasthan’s Pali district, slabs of granite loom up from the earth, sculpted by complex chemical interactions, wind and weather. The year-round yellow flowers of the matura tea tree (. Used as a local form of henna. January 29, 2015. I love...

A landscape lover's blog. Garden tales from a Brit at home and abroad. It can be hard to grasp the shift in France from the great classical, geometric gardens of Le Nôtre and his followers to the so-called. Style which swept the country in the years leading up to the French revolution. It is possible to write at length and with some pretension (as I have done. About Republicanism and Romanticism, Chambers and Rousseau, to try and tease out the evolution from one to the other. The gardens at the château d...

A landscape lover's blog. Garden tales from a Brit at home and abroad. 8220;Garden of the Year” is a strange award, and one that for me has led to disappointment. So I am delighted today to have a guest post about Abbotsbury. Which was chosen as the Historic Houses Association/Christie’s Garden of the Year. In 2012. Our reviewer is Jacqui Compton, who recently posted here on the landscapes in the rather more remote Faroe islands. 8220;Inspired by Landscape Lover’s review of Stourhead. The gardens are div...

A landscape lover's blog. Garden tales from a Brit at home and abroad. The London Olympic Park. The start of the World Cup tomorrow has been overshadowed by concerns. About the readiness of the infrastructure, and hostility from many Brazilians to their government spending so much money on sport, rather than healthcare or public transport. Even bigger problems lurk for the 2016 Olympics, due to take place in the same country. So it was interesting earlier this summer to visit the newly reopened site of t...
