I've been putting this one off for a while but then this morning I realized that I'd better fix a display case to fit a gift that was sent to me before we start moving next week. In 2009 when I was still living in Missouri I was looking for something to do one Sunday in the spring and so when I heard about a troupe of Civil War re-inactors that were in town at a former fort site I decided to check it out.

And other things not directly related to travel. DIM Headboard For Less than $100. No, that's not a typo. Here's the Did-It-Meself headboard project I completed this afternoon. Though I just realized that some people might think that it's "dim", like "dumb". At the hardware store they were kind enough to cut the plywood I bought into the dimensions I needed, so all I had to do was break out the stapler I bought. Except that the staples I bought weren't the right size. What was I saying about being dim.

And other things not directly related to travel. I can't believe how quickly the wine glass rack came in. My Amazon order was placed on Saturday, so kudos to them! But now it is obvious that I need to upgrade my stemware collection! Cabinet space is a commodity (and really, who ever complains that they have too much. So with one of the shelves cleared I have room for some grown-up bar glasses ;). I tried to give Monti a kiss under the mistletoe but he just swatted at it. I guess all boys are allergic!

I had a quiet but enjoyable birthday dinner with friends at Ryleigh's Oyster Bar in Baltimore. $1 bivalves are hard to beat, and they were some of the best and freshest-tasting I've ever had. Even Hans liked them! Later in the month the party continued as Hans and I went out for Thai food and then saw Verdi's Requiem.
