Confessions of a New Jersey Nanny and Teacher. Friskey (he’s the cat). Ok, so Friskey is not a human, but Friskey was the best. He was my cat and one of my best buddies growing up, and he definitely deserves a spot in my Childhood Web. The moral of the story is, we can’t overlook the power our pets have to support us in our lives and in our development. So when I was 10, I went on a family mission to Israel with my mom (pretty much the one Jewish thing we ever did, but super amazing). One day on the tour bus, Karen Sokolof Javitch played her original music on the bus speakers, and I decided to sing along. Since that day, Karen has been what I call “the second mom.”. Saturday, June 20, 2009. Yesterday we had thunderstorms threatening all day but the storm didn't hit us until evening. It got very very dark outside and the wind picked up and it just poured! Mom and dad turned on the tv to see if they could get an update on the storm while I happened to be in the dining room, making a shopping list. I looked up out of our bay windows and jumped to my feet. The tree! It had toppled over! This morning it was gone so hopefully it's hopping around somewhere, glad to be alive.
