Christian. Quaker. Progressive. Wednesday, August 25, 2004. This Is Church, version 2.0. It’s hard to believe that we’re approaching the first anniversary of our little experiment in exploring ekklesia. How many of us thought a year ago that we’d be doing what we are today? Looking back, I’m amazed at God’s kindness, faithfulness, guidance and provision. We’ve received an offer from a Christian business attorney to set us up as a 501c3 tax-exempt organization for no charge. The consensus at this poin...

Christian. Quaker. Progressive. Thursday, October 30, 2003. Deep thoughts from someone much deeper than me. I read something recently on Todd Hunter's blog that I thought was very profound and insightful. I wanted to share it, so here goes:. Merely messing with models of church is not going to get us where we want to go. But again this does not mean we abandon our pursuit of better models. It means that models are second; spiritual transformation is first, in community, for the sake of the world. There's...

Christian. Quaker. Progressive. Saturday, December 06, 2003. What a night we had tonight! We met for our Friday night "ekklesia" at a house other than the one where we usually meet. The evening began at 6pm with a great dinner and good conversation. Then our hostess did something really wacky and brought out a bunch of paper masks she had bought. We were laughing so hard, trying them on and goofing around. I'll try to post some pictures! We had been at it for 6 hours, yet the time had seemed to fly by!

Christian. Quaker. Progressive. Monday, September 29, 2003. Our Sunday Field Trip Report. Yesterday was our first Sunday away from SPV, the church we’ve been part of for about 3 years. It was a strange feeling. On one hand I was relieved to not have to load and setup musical equipment, on the other hand we terribly missed being with our dear friends. It felt a bit isolated, yet peaceful. Hard to explain. We took a nice walk around the neighborhood (awfully quiet on a Sunday morning! So instead of having ...

Christian. Quaker. Progressive. Sunday, January 11, 2004. My Blog has been clogged! Wow, I haven't blogged in a while! I think there are four reasons for this:. 1) The novelty wore off. 2) The last couple of months have been very busy. 3) I've been doing a lot of face-to-face sharing with people. 4) I'm not sure that anyone reads this anyway! Here is a document I've thrown together to explain to visitors what we're all about. It's sort of an FAQ:. A Community of Christians (aka Exploring Ekklesia). By se...

Christian. Quaker. Progressive. Wednesday, April 21, 2004. Here's a cute essay that I stumbled across on the blog of a guy who describes himself as an "ecclesiastical anarchist" ( http:/ robbymac.blogspot.com. It started by me observing: Lutheran and Reformed are like Obi-Wan and Darth Vader- they're both really cool and have the Force, but the Reformed have to be all sinister and scary about it. Then people wanted to know what the rest of the sects would be:. The Orthodox are the Ewoks. They're real...

Christian. Quaker. Progressive. Friday, November 14, 2003. I've come across an extremely good study that examines issues of leadership, authority, submission, accountability, etc. This does a great job of tying together many of the components I've been sorting through and does so from a very biblical perspective. Highly recommended. Here's the link to it:. Http:/ www.greatsouthland.org/covering.html. Posted by Danny Coleman at 1:43 PM. Wednesday, November 12, 2003. The whole nature of the ongoing vision ...
