Scribblings of an Inkmouse: Procrastination and how to deal with it
http://scribblingsofaninkmouse.blogspot.com/2013/02/procrastination-and-how-to-deal-with-it.html
Thursday, 21 February 2013. Procrastination and how to deal with it. What does a writer plus procrastination equal? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Zilch. Zero. Procrastinating is when you spend six hours watching videos of cats falling off a garden fence on YouTube, or when you go on Tumblr at 9am to look at cool gifs from the Hobbit, then close the tab at 10pm and wonder what you are doing with your life. Procrastination is the reason you haven't finished your novel yet (unless you. Gone, by Michael Grant.

Tuesday, 25 September 2012. How to Create a Character from Scratch. In my opinion, characters are the most important aspect in a story. You don't have to agree with me, but just think of this: in the books that people seem to rave about (Harry Potter, Hunger Games etc) what is it that they reference most? Everyone remembers Ron Weasley (why didn't I say HP? Because, seriously, the clue's in the name) and Katniss. They are great characters, with personalities and goals. That's what drives a story. Sometim...

M J Francis: August 2014
http://www.mjfrancis.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Fiction and musings from a SF, horror, fantasy writer in the making. Monday, 25 August 2014. 8220; this is a book in which YOU become the hero! Does this sound familiar? Do you remember being a hero? I still have some of these books – fifteen of them. There’s a copy of The Warlock of Firetop Mountain. Although my excuse was I’d acquired an invincibility potion from a kindly alchemist at a nearby inn on the way to the castle. Honest. A story. Although it was Terry Pratchett’s Small Gods. Now, I’ve k...

Bard at Bay: DEATH OF INNOCENCE
http://redhandwriter.blogspot.com/2015/08/death-of-innocence.html
Watercolour by Tony Taylor http:/ www.paintingbreaksguernsey.com. Thursday, 6 August 2015. Seventy years ago today, an event occurred that changed forever the world in which we live and granted the human race an awesome power hitherto attributed only to the gods. We work our fields. The sun is bright. The men sing a patriotic song. We bend and straighten. Our backs ache. We do not curse: we are polite and strong. To work is to belong. We toil for the Emperor’s sake. We are a happy crowd. Is laid to waste.

I have a chaise longue AND I live in an attic. Almost there. About / life story writing. Sunday, 19 April 2015. Lost at Sea - Part 1. I was naive enough to tell people I was going ‘to find myself’. I wasn’t scared of anything external. 8217; I was aghast –. Of course I could. Looking forward to the next instalment. 19 April 2015 at 20:38. Ah, thanks Helen. 20 April 2015 at 08:08. Ooh, you intrepid ladybird, you! 10 May 2015 at 22:31. Hm, cook a sausage casserole I reck. 17 May 2015 at 16:03. A sharply pa...

Scribblings of an Inkmouse: Give them the time of day
http://scribblingsofaninkmouse.blogspot.com/2013/01/give-them-time-of-day.html
Tuesday, 29 January 2013. Give them the time of day. As you're writing, you're probably more focused on the characters and the plot than the technical details. And that's how it should be. If you spent all your time in the little details in the first draft, you'd never finish it. This tends to creep in when you novel takes place over a long period of time, but even if it takes place within a week the timing can end up a little off. See the issue here? Tuesday, 30 October 2012. How to survive NaNoWriMo. Otherwise know as National Novel Writing Month. For those who don't know, NaNoWriMo is a challenge for you to write 50,000 words (different ones, obviously) in one month. I'm not actually doing it this month (I have exams) but seeing as it starts in a few days (1st of November) I figured I would give you some tips on how to survive, and hopefully emerge victorious. 1) Have a plan. 2) Set aside time to write. 3) Don't give in to those inner thoughts!
