Dante's Lab: enero 2015

http://danteslab.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

De Kurose y Ross, " Security Engineering: A Guide to Building Dependable Distributed systems.

Linux Firewalls: Attack Detection and Response with iptables, psad, and fwsnort.

When you learn a language there is a point where beginners books don't give you anything useful any longer, where you can develop almost anything you want with what you know so far but that level of knowledge is not enough, you want to master the language and improve your skills a little more everyday. Is the kind of book to read when you get that point. It's not a book for beginners but a book for developers who want to be really pythonic. Enlaces a esta entrada. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Dante's Lab: November 2011

http://danteslab-eng.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Virtualization has expanded strongly over recent years in the design of organizational systems, which is not surprising given the cost savings it offers, ease of scaling and fault tolerance. So much that now they are beginning to say that is better for the backoffice to be based exclusively on virtualization solutions like those offered by VMware. Among others. However, these proposals tend to be based more on excitement from the marketing. Promises than on technical analysis in the cold. And bring into q...

At this point it is redundant to explain the reasons for using cryptographic techniques. Throughout history we have seen many examples which are summarized in the premise that someone wants to keep secret something that another would like to know. Of the information of the portable devices in a comfortable way that do not penalize their use. To address these problems the military has been developing long ciphers able to protect data in case of mass storage devices fall into enemy hands. This file system ...

Virtual environments for real developments, playing with virtualenv. I don't know what you do but I usually develop multiple projects at the same time. Problem is that sometimes you need libraries for a project that are incompatible with those in another. That's why virtualenv. Exists in Python world. Using virtualenv as part of your usual developments tools will keep you away future headaches. Be aware that 3.3 version's venv install with no pip support but thankfully that support was added in Pytho...

Silence on the wire. The problem with many security books is that they simply list a series of attacks against vulnerabilities in systems services. What happens to these books is that they lose validity as patches appear for vulnerabilities explained, so that when book reach printers actually is outdated. Belongs to this second set of books. For all the above and more this is an excellent book should be indispensable in the library of any student of computer security warning that reading this book presup...

Creating virtual laboratories with Netkit (II). In my previous article about Netkit. We are going to prepare an example of a laboratory to simulate a scenario in which Alice is connected to the Internet from the switched network in your organization. What she doesn't know is that an intruder has gained access to the network and intends to launch a arp-spoofing attack against Alice to find out which internet pages she visits. In the "Default" of this file we must write:. Of course, instead of dante. Besid...

Great news for developers. Following the new trends started by Satya Nadella. Announced last 12 of November that a new Visual Studio. Version was about to be launched with wide opened license. Allowing free use by individuals and small development groups for either commercial and not commercial uses. With those features, why download Visual Studio Express? Actually I don't know. Some say Community version of Visual Studio will retire Express version, but Microsoft hasn't done so far. Following its licens...

Python test coverage tools. I guess there are many metrics out there to know how effective are your unittest proofs to cover all possible cases of your developments. In the future I'm going to formalize my knowledge in TDD but nowadays I'm just playing with the concepts so I follow a very simple metric: If my tests ejecutes all my code program then I'm doing OK. How to know if your tests executes all your code? We are going to see two ways to analyze your test coverage: from console and from your IDE.
