I've worked on the digital. Since 2000. It is a real-time, physics based, interactive manifestation of the ocean. I was spending a lot of time out at the ocean, photographing the waves. It was sublime. But, apparently, also determined by the laws of physics? So I researched a bit, found some fluid dynamics math, and began work on an implementation of the ocean. Displacement 1, 2011. Three Boards, 2011. Displacement 2, 2011. Situated sixty miles north of Twain’s route, Wendover airfield also lies in an alkali desert. Mindful of Twain’s travels, Torop made photographs here documenting both the desert and objects passing through it. A presentation of materials is now on display at the Center for Land Use Interpretation's Exhibit Hall Three in Wendover, Utah. Previously the images were displayed in the CLUI Exhibit Hall One. Curvature of the Earth. Sometime around 2001, I decided I was a landscape photographer. No more birds, just the land. And an odd seal. Subject: photography show opens Thursday. There's a show of my photographs opening this Thursday (September 8) at Derek Eller Gallery.
