Goal Lines: May 2011
http://goallines.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 31 May 2011. League One Play-off Final 2011 Huddersfield Town 0 Peterborough United 3. If I hadn't bumped into him at Harshead Moor Services on the way to the match we wouldn't have lost. Having coffee with a Leeds United fan ahead of an important game like that was bound to influence the outcome. Among our own fans! PS Sorry about lack of images - I took loads of photos but Blogger's being awkward and won't let me download them. Will try again later. Monday, 23 May 2011. Congratulations to Nari...

Goal Lines: February 2011

Thursday, 10 February 2011. First team to beat Man U this season. So Wolves have pulled off another giant-killing act this season, and yes, sure I'm pleased (particularly as Spurs-supporting husband said we had 'no chance' - he didn't put it quite as politely as that, though). But now we need to start beating some of the less glam teams if we have any chance at all of staying up. I still think we can do it. Wednesday, 9 February 2011. Unexpected Football Outbreak - Dan Tunstall. First of all, Sven had to...

Helena Pielichaty : Women's Super League. I like the new logo. It has good strong colours and a distinctive design. There will be 8 te...

Goal Lines: August 2011

Sunday, 28 August 2011. Women's Super League - end of season one. As I type this Manchester United have just trounced Arsenal 8-2 but I've just returned from something even more significant - the last match of the season in the first FA Women's Super League. WSL) I attended the mid-table clash between Lincoln Ladies. The result was a 3-1 win for Lincoln with two goals from new signing Jodie Taylor. Either side of the half, a third from Lucy Staniforth. And an OG for Bristol from Imps' captain Casey Stoney.

Goal Lines: January 2011
http://goallines.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, 30 January 2011. Arsenal 2 Huddersfield Town 1 in the 4th Round of the FA Cup. So what would Herbert have made of today's fixture in the fourth round of the FA Cup? His two clubs have followed different paths. Huddersfield are nowhere near as big as they were in his day, Arsenal have remained one of the top 5 clubs in England ever since his death. He'd have had to bet on Arsenal. Fabregas, naturally, buried it. So 2-1 to Arsenal but Huddersfield Town, by the end, had 58% overall possession and mo...

Goal Lines: December 2010

Wednesday, 29 December 2010. The M62 Derby - Alan Gibbons. Here’s a question: what’s the first game you look for when they publish the fixture list? For me, there is no competition, it is the M62 derby, Manchester United v Liverpool. There was a loud gasp all the way down the thirty-odd mile corridor between the two great North West cities when the teams were drawn against each other in the FA Cup. The fierce rivalry will recommence on January 9. So who will be wearing a smile on January 9. Next doorR...

Tuesday, 6 September 2011. A Window Of Opportunity - Dan Tunstall. Not everyone in football is a fan of the Transfer Windows in January and July/August. Respected figures in the game like Steve Coppell, the former Reading manager, and Sven Goran Eriksson, ex of Man City and England, now at the helm at Leicester, have spoken out against them. Andy Johnson. Cameron Jerome. Yakubu. Victor Anichebe. Shane Long. Nicky Maynard. Nikica Jelavic. Simon Cox. Adam le Fondre. Robb...In the end, our only piece of tra...

Goal Lines: Wake-Up Call For Sven's Men - Dan Tunstall

Monday, 15 August 2011. Wake-Up Call For Sven's Men - Dan Tunstall. Over this summer, you'd be forgiven for thinking that my club, Leicester City, has undergone a name change. We're not just Leicester City any more. We're. Big Spending Leicester City. The thing about spending big though, is that people expect immediate results. And that's the tricky part. We started the season well enough. A 1-0 win at Coventry on the opening day, despite having Darius Vassell sent off for a rash two-footed c...I don't k...

Goal Lines: September 2011

Friday, 23 September 2011. A big Derby match – Keith Mansfield. Scouring the sports pages of newspapers, my eyes are often drawn to an article I then discover is nothing to do with my team. The adjective that describes Derby will turn out to be to ‘local’ rather than ‘mighty’. I suspect it means my club nominally has more mentions in more papers around the world than any other. Who’s named after the city so I think we can safely claim the etymology. Tom writes about the dirty Leeds. Some football comment...
