Art in the Life: April 2013

http://www.darcysartlife.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Art in the Life. Saturday, April 27, 2013. Out with the Old. Consider yourselves served. I would like it to be known. I picked up my new glasses this week. (These spectacles are reminiscent of my glasses from 1993.) The fact that I have these glasses is the sign for all Trenders to move on to the next big thing. It's like when the crocuses pop up as the first sign of spring. That was a little pathetic. Nice man called. Husband rescued me. The bird lived. Def Leppard acquired from Pinterest. NO wait. ...

Art in the Life: Reassessing Renoir

http://www.darcysartlife.blogspot.com/2013/08/reassessing-renoir.html

Art in the Life. Saturday, August 17, 2013. The Art Institute of Chicago is a wonderful place to explore. I believe it would take a few weeks of daily visits to see everything there is to see, but still that wouldn't leave time to actually study the works on display. We dipped our toes in the Mississippi, why not a Great Lake? Asking that question is how we ended up at the Art Institute of Chicago. Auguste Pierre Renoir,. 1841–1919) was a French artist who was a leading painter in the development o...

Art in the Life: December 2012

http://www.darcysartlife.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Art in the Life. Wednesday, December 12, 2012. So here we are at the end of time. again. I am writing this blog post in anticipation of the end of the world: December 21, 2012. In my lifetime I have survived three official "End of Time" events and I am sure, many unofficial calls that I obviously didn't pay much attention to until last year when a man (Harold Camping? March 10, 1982 - The Jupiter Effect. We had no idea Argentina and England were warring over the Falkland Islands for 74 days. After th...

Art in the Life: Quick Question!

http://www.darcysartlife.blogspot.com/2013/08/quick-question.html

Art in the Life. Monday, August 12, 2013. Does it seem odd to anyone else to drive halfway across one farming state and only see two different crops? Recently, my daughter and I went to Iowa and while we were there, we saw some lovely scenery, historic sights and a whole lot of corn. Scattered throughout some of these massive corn fields were smaller crops of soy beans. In 2006, farmers were paid $40,000 per person on the farm or $80,000 per couple, depending on their crop, of course. The top three state...

My Scarlet Letters: Marcella

http://myscarletletters.blogspot.com/2012/08/we-cant-help-it.html

It's happened again. Someone slipped out of my life when I was paying inadequate attention. The last time this happened, when Pete died a few years ago, I swore it would not happen again. That those very few, but priceless and pivotal people in my life would be fully aware of my gratitude for them. For their energy. For their light. For their influence. That my appreciation would not go unspoken. Marcella, thank you so much. I miss you so. Posted by Barbie Scarlet. August 13, 2012 at 6:12 PM.

My Scarlet Letters: April 2012

http://myscarletletters.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

I have been writing in my head about these flowers since they were delivered to me Wednesday. It was such a bright spot that I just couldn’t help it. I had a really bad day this week. Tuesday. And near the end of the work day for most people in my building, I stopped by a friend's desk, a diversion or release, I’d hoped. And she could see that I was a mess. She very kindly proceeded to just let me be a mess. A good friend will do that for you. She nodded her understanding. And I went back to work. She sa...

Connor and the Pink Peony. Recently, at the end of a long drive with Connor and Colton. In my car, we pull into Papa Lynn's driveway. I have to drive very slow, attempting to successfully circumnavigate the impressive potholes, of which I'm not sure I can actually see the. About half way down the drive,. You know February whizzed right by me. No blog post since January 1st. It's not that I haven't been blogging, it's just that I haven't been doing it out loud. I blog quite regularly in my head. I may have mentioned this before. When I start working on a blog topic in my head, the future post is short and crisp. It's clever and quick. It's funny and it's profound. But then this thing happens. in my head: I hear voices. You know the one, the voice that argues with the guy who just cut you off in traffic.

And now, 50,000 words and one month later, you are a NaNoWriMo Winner! I'm grateful for the pants on the dining room table. If it weren't for those pants, I'd have never started writing my 50,000 words on November 1, 2011. Every time he laughs I have to know what part he's reading. His eyes water with laughter. Is there any better form of encouragement? Even though November 2011 is over and I reached my goal:. 50,000 words, BABY! I'll keep at this story until it tells me it's finished. I'll be in touch.

Serving Size Summer: July 2014

Saturday, July 26, 2014. Running The Costco Gauntlet. Shopping at Costco can be fun. We can shop and eat what amounts to a sample plate of appetizers during happy hour. (Costco in Tijuana, Mexico served Tequila samples - I thought I heard since the privatization of liquor sales, this happens here in the U.S. as well.) Saturdays are especially delicious. I brought my son with me and told him, "this is lunch so eat up! The trick now is to live and learn and not go whole hog the next time. We will see.
