On the other hand, two days later I put in a best time for ten miles, cutting eight minutes off my previous best even though it was cold, windy and hissing down on the return leg. It was also a dreadful paddle where I seemed to be unable to co-ordinate anything. It also has to be said that most of the saving came from not stopping at the turn-around. 7 October 2014 at 10:53. Life on the Scrapheap: Retirement Strikes. Thursday, 13 November 2014. I Have a Need for Speed. In a couple of weeks the club is planning another 'marathon'. That's going to be one way trip from Boulters lock back to the clubhouse at Hampton, as it happens that's almost exactly 26 miles. All things being equal I'll give it a go. It should be a fair indicator of how I'll cope with that sort of distance and whether it's worth carrying on. Personally I'm just fed up worrying about it. I Must Try Harder.
