Thursday, 12 May 2011. It's that time of year again. Forth Valley Open Studios is almost upon us and I'm getting lots of artwork ready. I've some new large pieces that I've worked on over the last winter with canvasses from Yellowstone, the Arctic, and a snowy Scotland. Exhibition runs 11-19 June 2011 at West Moss-side. Details on my website or www.westmossside.com. Thursday, 17 March 2011. Which is the piscatorial hoax? Tuesday, 2 November 2010. The Christmas fairy has come early. I’d recogniz...Their p...

darren rees: May 2010

http://darrenrees.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Monday, 31 May 2010. Another test from a wi-fi lap top. Looking forward to watching beavers next week. So I'm still wrestling with the technology and hoping to master this blogging within a week. I'm off soon to one of my favourite places on earth - I'm taking a group to Yellowstone and Grand Teton, also adding on some personal time - that's over four weeks in the land of Yogi bear. Wednesday, 26 May 2010. Wildlife Artist of the Year Awards. But I'm rambling here. Back to Monday night. What is without do...

http://darrenrees.blogspot.com/2010/10/in-yellowstone-there-are-two-species-of.html

Monday, 25 October 2010. In Yellowstone there are two species of bears to look-out for: American Black Bears and Brown, or Grizzly Bears. One's black and the other brown you'd think. You'd think wrong. You see some brown bears are technically black. This is when the individual is referred as a 'cinnamon' and then you have a brown black bear. Just to keep you guessing some grizzlies are really dark so at a distance you can have black brown bears. Confused yet? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Thursday, 17 March 2011. No, not the tv panel game with the much missed Fwank Muir. Try one of the natural history variants like call-my-neotropic-hummingbird-bluff, or call-my-tundra-flora-bluff. You get to falsify names and hide them amongst real species, and this week I've been playing call-my-reef-fishy-bluff. Which is the piscatorial hoax? Many thanks to Chas, Sue and Robert. Go see the Maldives with them at www.whale-and-dolphin.com. Geraldo roberto da silva. 24 March 2011 at 11:07.

darren rees: April 2010

http://darrenrees.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Friday, 23 April 2010. I'm finally getting the hang of uploading images and so I'd better start blogging. I've just returned from Extremadura, thankfully just before the volcanic ash shutdown (my co-leader Mark wasn't so lucky and finally made it home Fri 23 - he did get some extra birds though, making up for the chaos at Bilbao). So what of Extremadura? Wednesday, 14 April 2010. Website finally up and running - I'm sure there's some fine tuning to do but checkout www.darrenrees.com.

Monday, 25 October 2010. Blackbird in Rowan by Robert Gillmor. A lot can change in fifty years. We take the plethora of wildlife images that adorn magazines, galleries (and websites) for granted now, but in 1960 artworks featuring nature were few and far between. The wildfowl paintings of Peter Scott and book illustrations from Charles Tunnicliffe were popular but far from commonplace. You have to know where you came from if you want to know where you’re going. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What di...

Darren Rees - Artist

Darren Rees's observational powers create some of the most beautiful images in modern British wildlife painting today.' WWT. If I fantasise about my Desert Island Paintings the ten works which I would wish to be shipwrecked with - along with the Van Gogh's, the Vermeer's, Miro's and Rothko's would be one by Darren Rees. Darren can paint properly, a rare skill, and that he paints wildlife subjects is fortunate for those of us who share his passion for the subject.' Chris. Share on del.icio.us.
