Thursday, January 27, 2011. Still a Happy Day. I wrote the below journal entry this afternoon (Kabul time):. On a whim, in the middle of writing this entry, I decided to call the hospital. I was expecting to get the runaround and to be told that Emily was in the middle of labor. Instead, I was connected right to Emily's room. Linda answered. 'Do you want to talk to the new mom? McCammon McBlog: Rest and Relaxation with the Taliban
http://mccammonblog.blogspot.com/2011/04/rest-and-relaxation-with-taliban.html
Thursday, April 14, 2011. Rest and Relaxation with the Taliban. My digs at the DFIP. I totally could ski down those mountains. Under Air Force policy, we’re entitled to four days of rest and relaxation during a six-month deployment. In Iraq, a lot of Air Force dudes got to spend their four days in the United Arab Emirates or Qatar. At the very least, they got to hang out for four days at their camp, doing absolutely nothing. So no days off for me. Lookin' relaxed after a. Restful time with the Taliban.

McCammon McBlog: June 2012

Friday, June 22, 2012. Officially called "Pteromerhanophobia," a fear of flying. My fear of flying actually has nothing at all to do with flying. I'm not necessarily scared of heights or of enclosed spaces (other than being in small cars with lots of kids) and I don't even understand how someone can be afraid of open spaces. For me, it's a fear of not being in control. But I've come to the realization that there's nothing I can do. I'm in seat 26C, reading my. Sometimes you just have to let go.

Sunday, February 8, 2009. Five Months and Counting. We love Turkey. We really do. But enough's enough. Let's just say that as we enter our 27th month here, it's becoming increasingly clear (and painfully obvious) why this is typically a 24-month assignment. So in a Festivus-like therapeutic airing of grievances, here is a brief rundown on the things that are driving us nuts:. 1 An Internet connection that apparently is powered by a slowly dying hamster. 4 Squatties. Sit-down toilets are a luxury....Run A...

Friday, August 31, 2012. Even the Art in Hell Is Bad. Every morning at about 3. Emily says I shouldn't call that kid a turd, but this is my blog and that's exactly what he is. I'm sure he's cute and everything, but until he cuts out the 3 am screaming, he's a t-u-r-d. And look, I'm toning down what I really want to call him, so cut me some slack. Blythe just came in our "living room" to tell us Bronwyn is hitting everyone with her Barbies. Nothing quite warms the cockles of the old heart and makes you fe...

Thursday, February 11, 2010. Random thoughts during the past six straight days of being snowed in:. 1 Scooby-Doo is still horrible. I mean, c'mon, even Coke changed their formula once in the past 30 years. Although, I did enjoy the "Scooby-Doo and the Mystery of the Green Machine" episode - turns out Shaggy stumbled upon some incriminating emails from some climate change experts and Al Gore totally would have gotten away with global warming if it weren't for those meddling kids. 3 Igloos are aweso. 7 Whe...

Friday, April 1, 2011. To Endure all Things. This is Emily. I’ve decided to hijack Shane’s blog in order to post something about what it’s like over here while he’s gone. WHEN CAN I COME OUT? I responded by telling him that “Heavenly Father doesn’t want me to beat my children and so we need to wrap this up quick before I snap. So, what closing song do you want to sing? 8221; Blythe quickly responded with “If You’re Happy and You Know it, Clap Your Hands! You guys slay me! April 15, 2011 at 4:31 PM.

As I have noted in this space before, I've moved a few times in my life. Unlike some of my siblings, who hated everything about being uprooted and packed off to some new state, I looked forward to each move. I mean, I was genuinely.
