DARWIN SOUNDINGS....: Spain to Portugal: Sailing south
http://darwinsound.blogspot.com/2015/08/sailing-south.html
Past reports of our sailing adventures on board Darwin Sound, plus some of our land-based adventures too. Monday, August 03, 2015. Spain to Portugal: Sailing south. We are sailing south to Portugal, surrounded by porpoises! Well, actually, we are not sailing because there is no wind. Our plan is to sail 60 NM but if the wind does not pick up we will stop overnight after about 30NM and carry on tomorrow. Posted by Whitney Crew. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Past reports of our sailing adventures on board Darwin Sound, plus some of our land-based adventures too. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Spain: sailing to the next ria. On Sunday we sailed from Muros in Ria Muros to Cabo Cruz in Ria Arosa, a distance of about 35 NM. Sailing was excellent, although very active. In fact, we did so many sail adjustments that we have no photos to share. Thanks for asking…). Sailing with the spinnaker at over 8 knots was exhilarating, but after less than 30 minutes the wind had fres...

Sarah on Tarquilla: Well loved stories
http://sarahontarquilla.blogspot.com/2015/07/well-loved-stories.html
Family life on board. Saturday, 11 July 2015. As work continues on the boat, the bookshelves have been sorted this week. Mildew has attacked some of them especially the older ones with cardboard covers. There has been a general cull with several thrown away as just too dog-eared or missing pages. I have also taken out the books they have grown out of. A large pile of these have gone for re-homing. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Drifted Art on Shutterstock. Living on a boat. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. A Wee Sail in the Western Isles - Arisaig to Isle of Eigg. The opening to Loch nan Ceall, Arisaig. Mike was much better than me with the lines. I would say my biggest claim to nautical fame was helping get the cover back on the spinnaker sail – kind of like stuffing a giant sausage into a flapping casing. I was also adept at helping get the anchor up. But that was just about the extent of my sailing prowess. Irene and Al on top of An Sgurr, Eigg. An Sgurr on Eigg. In a larger map.

WHITNEY WINTERS: May 2014
http://whitneywinters.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
News from the Whitney crew home base in the Coast Mountains of B.C. Canada. Monday, May 26, 2014. We sailed less than 10NM south into Dublin Bay and tied up overnight at the Dun Laoghaire (pronounced Doon Leary) Marina. Interesting to note this is a huge marina inside an artificial harbour built over 100 years ago to provide a safe refuge for sailing ships that would otherwise get embayed in Dublin Bay (and go aground on the rocks). The project was massive, especially in those days. '. Latitude = 53°...
WHITNEY WINTERS: January 2014
http://whitneywinters.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
News from the Whitney crew home base in the Coast Mountains of B.C. Canada. Monday, January 27, 2014. January conditions in our ski resort have been rather warm and dry, except for a few stormy days mid-month which brought us about 70cm of fresh snow. Late afternoon on the slopes. Lack of snow not only limited our alpine skiing options, it also meant the cross-country trails did not open until we finally had snow in mid-January. Mariners like to say: red sky at night, sailors delight.
