Farewell to the marshland. The last post →. July 22, 2012 · 10:11 pm. The Moors to the sea. Moretonhampstead – Newquay. Rising from a perfect slumber, we chowed down on a full breakfast and maundered through Moretonhampstead in anticipation of the climbs ahead. We were soon gasping up some steep climbs, tragically our loyal compass came adrift from the ruptured map case and was lost. Sans compass, we entered the misty realm of Dartmoor (needless to say, windblown rain with a headwind). The march goes on.

We said our goodbyes over a leisurely breakfast and set out in the pelting wind and driving rain, this is the British summer 2012, you’re welcome to it! We sheltered under a lych gate and tried to warm up. It’s all uphill to Moretonhampstead from Exeter and half way up the climb Tom decided it was time to jettison a few items to lose weight for the rest of the climbs, the sponge bag was sent hurtling into a road side bin as the cyclists climbed their way onto Dartmoor.
