Freiburg pulled at my heartstrings a little bit this morning. everyone i met was charming and wonderful. i found some treasures to pack in my suitcase. there was a group of teenage boys singing bob dylan on the street. an old man with a violin and an italian string ensemble. a saint bernard sitting in the bächle. It is the beginning of the end. I had such wonderful intentions. i have Holga photos to post and so many sweet yellow forsythia pictures. but my powerbook died today, and with it went my camera software. and also, tragically, the playlists that have kept me alive this winter. Maybe i'll put some words up in this space. Or maybe the motherblog just died. How do you know that it is dead? Does Freiburg have an Apple store? I feel your panic. Flights to Kuala Lumpur. I'm supposed to fly to iceland in a week, but there's a volcano a blowin'. not ideal. i pride myself in being a stress-free traveler, and i thought i was unshakable, but this volcano business has me nervous. Because my body literally aches to be on the move again, and plate tectonics might keep me grounded. yes, this is stress. The photo is from reykjavik in 2006. i used to be quite a fan of iceland. i'm re-evaluating. Those pictures are beautiful! Especially the first one. A very good description too.

Friday, January 2, 2009. Update from a bus. Short version: I traveled, ate, burnt my nose, and overall had a good vacation. Next stop Munich to visit Peter. We went to a poetry slam. Which I was able to understand almost everything. So proud. It was more standup/poetry slam. Some people were good, and some not so, but there was a good balance. Friday, November 29, 2013. Stephen and I went to Brussels last weekend to see Arcade Fire. In concert*, selecting Brussels out of the European options (Brussels, Paris, Berlin) because neither of us had ever been there. In the five years I've lived in Germany, I'd still never even been to Belgium! Through Belgium, sure, but I hadn't ever stopped there. Brussels. Who knew. The Arcade Fire concert was very, very fun. It was a fancy dress or costume concert, so we busted back out our crocodile and roach.

Kennt Ihr das Gefühl einfach nicht zu wissen, was man machen soll? Nicht vor nicht zurück. Nicht hin nicht her. Nicht schweigen, nicht schreien. Keine Lösung weit und breit. Ich weiß, dass das immer wieder mal vorkommt, wenn man Mama oder Papa ist. Hin und wieder stößt man eben an seine Grenzen und muss mit Situationen umgehen, von denen man nie geglaubt hätte, dass diese existieren. Ich bin mir auch durchaus bewusst, dass diese wieder vorbei gehen, halt irgendwann. Und das hoff ich jetzt auch wieder.
