Model our World: March 2008
http://cdnpypinfovis.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Ways of looking at information - ways of understanding what we see. From the streets of San Francisco. I read this post by a very thoughtful observer - of - the - world, who wrote about the flowering trees being in bloom, and then seeing these tape-measures on the ground (among the flower petals). Read the rest of her post below. It has nothing to do with directly with graphs and charts, but a lot to do with perspectives on data:. Posted by K E. Saturday, March 22, 2008. Links to this post. Tactical Logic: February 2008

Information Engineering for the Practical Data Phreak. Friday, February 29, 2008. A Missing Profession: Information Engineering. In business intelligence it seems to me like there is a missing profession: information engineering. Business Intelligence (BI) solutions ultimately aren't about the data that an organization has: they are about the information that the data carries. This information has to be uncovered, it has to be validated, and it has to be refined in a way that is usable. Information, like...
Tactical Logic: Customers are Weird
http://tactical-logic.blogspot.com/2009/06/customers-are-wierd.html
Information Engineering for the Practical Data Phreak. Saturday, June 27, 2009. Really, really weird. Imagine a company with 2mm customers. Reasonable-sized, not huge. How many people do you know well? Think about the absolute weirdest person you know. That company has customers that are literally 100 times weirder than the weirdest person you know. In fact, they've got 200 of them. It's a bad idea to think you know what customers are going to do without testing, measuring, and finding out.

Charting visual data communication. Visual Explanation of the Week #2: Graphical Algebra. Even a short glance over visual data yields a wealth of information, such as the number of represented objects. The ability to grasp that number in but a moment is called subitizing. Research on the phenomenon has shown that humans can usually identify the quantity of objects up to five, and up to eight with training. Cognitive shortcuts like subitizing are employed in the fabulous graphics made by Oliver Steele.
