Dave and Justin debate the weather

Dave and Justin debate the weather. Saturday, August 23, 2014. We've both been pretty quiet here recently; most of this is due to personal circumstances but also it's been due to a lack of good storms and setups to chase. Tomorrow may be different. Finally, something to talk about. Moisture: good dewpoints are already in place, in the mid-teens, but 20s are lurking in ND. They should advect north by tomorrow. Here's a prog sounding for Carman, MB, for 7 PM. Note the implied convection. Http:/ daveandjust...

Dave and Justin debate the weather: May 2011

http://daveandjustinweather.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Dave and Justin debate the weather. Sunday, May 29, 2011. Forecast for May 30. Memorial Day. It's last year on this day that we caught a beauty. This year looks like an okay setup for supercells, although tornadoes may be a little more elusive than last year. Moisture: copious. Not a concern, with surface dews around 20C likely to pool and moisture plentiful and deep. Instability: plentiful. MLCAPEs are likely to be above 2000 J/kg all over the place. Dave "storm structure" Carlsen. Day 7: bonus day.

Dave and Justin debate the weather: Saturday, the last day: high risk, high reward?

http://daveandjustinweather.blogspot.com/2013/05/saturday-last-day-high-risk-high-reward.html

Dave and Justin debate the weather. Saturday, May 25, 2013. Saturday, the last day: high risk, high reward? So today almost every chaser is playing the Black Hills magic. We would be doing so, too, if we didn't have to be in Omaha early tomorrow morning. So we decided to play in the area of plan B, a high risk, high reward setup. The Black Hills just got a tornado watch as I wrote this, so it would have been our 4th tornado watch during this week-long trip. Not that *that* has helped us at all. ;).

Dave and Justin debate the weather: Thursday

http://daveandjustinweather.blogspot.com/2013/05/thursday.html

Dave and Justin debate the weather. Thursday, May 23, 2013. Yesterday was a down day, as the cold front had swept the moisture away. Not too far, however. This morning we woke up with a lot moire moisture in the air (dewpoint approaching 20) and an outflow boundary nearby from overnight storms in Oklahoma. The moisture is streaming northwest, and a short-wave trough can be seen coming out of the desert southwest. So we will see what today brings, but I remain optimistic. Dave "storm structure" Carlsen.

Dave and Justin debate the weather: Friday's chase: storm structure

http://daveandjustinweather.blogspot.com/2013/05/fridays-chase-storm-structure.html

Dave and Justin debate the weather. Saturday, May 25, 2013. Friday's chase: storm structure. We kept saying Wray, Colorado. That was the place to be. After a quick lunch in Lamar, CO, we went north to Wray, and when we got there, a good area of cumuli was bubbling up. It pointed to the fact that there was persistent lift and convergence there, so we waited. Dave "storm structure" Carlsen. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Saturday, the last day: high risk, high reward? Fridays chase: storm structure.

Dave and Justin debate the weather: December 2012

http://daveandjustinweather.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Dave and Justin debate the weather. Sunday, December 23, 2012. Christmas Day mayhem along the Gulf Coast? I put a question mark in the title, as there's still some uncertainty about how much mayhem there'll be. That being said, the ingredients are more or less coming together for a severe weather outbreak on Christmas Day in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida panhandle. So, what could happen? Scenario 1) the warm sector lights up with tornadic supercells. Cloud bases. As in almost at the...

Over the past few days and weeks, i've been noticing the relative lack of tornadic supercells- not only over canada, but over north america. What would cause such a dearth? So what is it? I think it's the tilt of the upper troughs passing through. So put t...
