From the banks of the Wye

From the banks of the Wye. January 04, 2018. Taking Leave Of My Senses. Welcome to another year of my angling life. Looking in my diary it's been well over two months since I last set foot on the banks of the river. That was also the last time I landed a fish as the one other trip after carp also saw me blank and retire into hibernation. Therefore today's outing was long overdue. well, a day overdue really. I'll explain. October 12, 2017. Fishing - Solar Power Pack. I've not been out much. Twice in f...

From the banks of the Wye: April 2015

http://daveburrsblog.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

From the banks of the Wye. April 28, 2015. Bunny 1931 to 2015. When you meet somebody who, without a hint of irony, introduces himself as "Bunny" you know that you are in for an interesting journey. Having travelled that journey for nearly twenty years I can happily state that it has been fun all the way. Of all the tales I can relate about Bunny this is my favourite and oddly, it was when he caught a two pound plus roach which was very much against the grain. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Long time no see.

From the banks of the Wye: A National Bird

http://daveburrsblog.blogspot.com/2015/03/a-national-bird.html

From the banks of the Wye. March 17, 2015. Do we really need such a thing? What will a National Bird achieve? I can't imaging the Union Jack being altered to accommodate it's image so its just another one of those pointless pieces of fluff designed to take the mind off of important matters like which shower of incompetents are we going to elect to screw us over for the next five years. Should this bird mirror us by its behaviour or is it just a popularity contest? They will happily kill each other as the...

From the banks of the Wye: August 2014

http://daveburrsblog.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

From the banks of the Wye. August 17, 2014. Welsh Wildies and things that creep and crawl. Some of the Gathering. We sat beneath a clear sky chatting whilst watching satellites and shooting stars. At some ungodly hour Stu did his cockerel impression and stirred the camp. He really is a great cock. With much coughing, farting and scratching we drank life infusing coffee and were ready to go when, at 7.15 Stu started making bloody toast. He really is a great. I refused to fish from one and began my assault.

From the banks of the Wye: Nostalgia and a warning

http://daveburrsblog.blogspot.com/2015/05/nostalgia-and-warning.html

From the banks of the Wye. May 11, 2015. Nostalgia and a warning. I was in Taunton today, the town of much of my youth and adult working life. Its normal to feel nostalgia when in your home town I guess but a stroll around French Weir really set the memories flooding back. All that remains is the stump. The salmon steps - there were no warning signs in my day :o). Now think - when you fish with your mates, how often do you get a shot of both of you together? May 12, 2015 at 7:17 AM. The other Dave Burr&#...

My Quest in the Search for Barbus Barbus and Esox Lucius. Sunday, 4 August 2013. A Specialist Anglers Diary: Estate lake tench - giving em some grubs

http://www.speci-angler.co.uk/2014/05/estate-lake-tench-giving-em-some-grubs.html

A Specialist Anglers Diary. The story so far. Tuesday, 27 May 2014. Estate lake tench - giving em some grubs. As that question was asked you'll have gathered that I did indeed break the run of blanks, in fact I had a cracking days sport and ended up with a dozen fish to 6lb 12oz. I started out with one rod on the dura method feeder and dampened pellet but after the fourth bite on the blocked and maggot rig I put the same on both rods and didn't look back. Heron nest on the island. Best fish of a wet day.

A Specialist Anglers Diary: Back to the barbel - A tale of three rivers

http://www.speci-angler.co.uk/2015/01/back-to-barbel-tale-of-three-rivers.html

A Specialist Anglers Diary. The story so far. Friday, 2 January 2015. Back to the barbel - A tale of three rivers. The Soar in all its glory. One of two 5lb chub in three trips. One thing I have been doing a bit this year is sticking a small bright "sight blob", for want of a better word, on top of the hair rigged boilie. Carp anglers have been doing this for donkeys years so why not barbel? With the fish returned I finally sat down and made another cast. Again it was only a matter of minutes before ...

Sunday, 12 May 2013. I've moved my blog to here. See you over there. Friday, 10 May 2013. So last time we spoke, I was back in the teaching groove after finishing my BASI Level 3 technical and teaching exams. The season soon wrapped up, with ski teaching work dropping off in Morgins immediately after Easter. Annoyingly, even now, I can see there is snow up the top and the mogul field is still there, looking lonely. May has been a little disappointing so far, in that it has rained more or less constantly.

039;I liked skiing the way it was before snowboarding was invented' – Glen Plake. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. This is the start? December 27, 2014. I woke up this morning for the first time to the magical sound of beeping and scraping snowploughs and the man downstairs at the Creperie, hard at work with his shovel, cleaning the snow from his terrace. This can only mean one thing, the big snow has arrived. Personally this year, I’m taking a break from BASI and ski instructor ...
