The once smooth tarmac has been washed away leaving just a hard rocky underlay. They have started fixing the road, but according to the billboard this wont be completed until late 2011. Long haul trucker frames are so popular because they feature all of these things, and the FFF (fatties fit fine) dropouts accomodate very large tyres, up to 40mm I believe. There seem to be numerous other features that surly has added to the long haul trucker making it perhaps the ideal frame for long distance touring. THE ALL IMPORTANT TOURING WHEELS.

Camped behind the croquet lawn in Hitoyoshi 'craft park' where I met a japanese motor bike traveller. Was introduced to the pleasures of hot shochu (distilled japanese spirit, usually from rice or sweet potatoe) and gave me details of numerous cheap places to stay en-route to Kagoshima. It doesn't really feel like it's over though. I suppose because I'm not back home in Pasadena yet. In that case, it will never feel "over" because I'm moving to Mountain View (or thereabouts) and not back to Pasadena. Cathy has a hole in her shirt because her bird likes to rip her shirt.
