Birdie Num Num: What is Bird Ringing?
http://davehallam.blogspot.com/p/what-is-bird-ringing.html
This is a blog about my bird ringing activities, inspired by many other existing ringing blogs that I very much enjoy reading, enjoy, comment, share. What is Bird Ringing? Simply, fitting a uniquely numbered ring to a birds leg is bird ringing. It is called bird banding in other parts of the world. There are other marking techniques used, incuding wing tags and colour rings which you've prbably heard about or seen. If you think about it how can you tell one bird of the same species from another? This is ...
Birdie Num Num: November 2014
http://davehallam.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
This is a blog about my bird ringing activities, inspired by many other existing ringing blogs that I very much enjoy reading, enjoy, comment, share. Woodnook, Season 3, Episode 1. 30/11/2014 - Wentworth, Woodnook. By heck it was good to be back ringing at Woodnook this morning! Gorgeous sunrise on what could have been a Spring morning, except that its November (until tomorrow) and the leaves are falling from the trees, and it's Winter. Ringing equipment and lollies. Not an awfully big catch today but it...
Birdie Num Num: Happy Sundays
http://davehallam.blogspot.com/2014/03/happy-sundays.html
This is a blog about my bird ringing activities, inspired by many other existing ringing blogs that I very much enjoy reading, enjoy, comment, share. 03/02/2014 - Wentworth, Woodnook. Been a while hasn't it? Well there you go. It's been a quiet Winter for us, ringing wise, though to be fair it hasn't really felt like a Winter at all. I was out a few weeks ago but it was a low key affair so I didn't get around to blogging it, oh the shame! Anyhow we made it out this morning. TBL with a GRSWO. No surprises...
Birdie Num Num: Winter season starts...
http://davehallam.blogspot.com/2013/11/winter-season-starts.html
This is a blog about my bird ringing activities, inspired by many other existing ringing blogs that I very much enjoy reading, enjoy, comment, share. 21/11/2013 Wentworth, Woodnook. The rain didn't last long, stopping just as quick as it started, which allowed us to open the nets again and finish as we had started, adding more finches, tits, and a couple of new Nuthatch to the mornings log. The final bird of the day was an unexpected Brambling, which I always find a pleasure to come across. A local ringe...

Gillian Dinsmore’s Bird Ringing Blog: August 2012
http://gilliandinsmore.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, 16 August 2012. Flick Me A Swift! In June, whilst out checking on a few nests around the local cemetery, we noticed some Swifts flying particularly low amongst the gravestones. We decided to take the opportunity to try some flick netting so jumping in the car we whizzed back to the house, picked up the gear and hurried back before the Swifts started flying high again. These little high flying wonders have such extremely sharp claws it’s unreal and very painful! Lesson learned I think! Back in J...
Gillian Dinsmore’s Bird Ringing Blog: Summing up The Siskin
http://gilliandinsmore.blogspot.com/2015/02/summing-up-siskins.html
Monday, 2 February 2015. Summing up The Siskin. Just a quick update on the Siskin today:. It's been almost a year since I was sat at my bedroom window at university catching Siskins - See Here. In the end I ringed over 350 and now have had time to play with Google Earth and map the controls/recoveries. I managed to catch 16 controls between March and May last year and as you can see from the map below they came from all over the UK. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). http://gilliandinsmore.blogspot.com/2015/04/galloway-gulls.html
Sunday, 26 April 2015. Common Gulls in The UK. The Galloway Common Gull Study aims to investigate the breeding biology and migratory behaviour of this stunning and charismatic bird. The Common gull larus canus. To find out more about the breeding biology and dispersal of the Common Gull this study will mon...
Gillian Dinsmore’s Bird Ringing Blog: March 2012
http://gilliandinsmore.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, 22 March 2012. Last week, whilst out nest recording on campus, I came across a couple of new colour ringed Mute Swans on Airthrey Loch. Mute swans may appear to just be sedentary to 'their ponds' but they do in fact move! The last colour marked Mute Swan that I observed down on the loch turned out to have quite the history ( see here. And so I was eager to hear back about these individuals too. Green LZX was ringed as a cygnet at Linlithgow Loch in. Labels: Airthrey Loch swans. After arriving a...

Ryan Knight-Fox Bird Ringing. Thursday, 1 December 2016. I have now ringed 16 species and just over 150 birds at this site. Thank you to the Teifi Ringers for their advice on how to catch the Redwing and thank you Charlie for the Latvian Redwing sound, which brought them down to the mist net. I caught the first one at 8:30am and then two more at 9:00am. Other birds ringed this morning, starting at 6:45am, were: 2 Blackbirds, 3 Blue tits, 1 Chaffinch and another male Great spotted woodpecker.
Gillian Dinsmore’s Bird Ringing Blog: Eggciting News!
http://gilliandinsmore.blogspot.com/2015/05/eggciting-news.html
Friday, 8 May 2015. The gulls seem to be picking up the pace now down at the main study site for The Galloway Common Gull Study. After checking a section of the site last week I was pleased to find 12 new nests and a couple of complete clutches. If these complete clutches are successful through to hatching then we can expect the first chicks at the end of the month….good thing the colour rings are on order! Spot the freshly laid egg! There only 1 week left to go now until the project page. PS There are s...

Ryan Knight-Fox Bird Ringing: That enjoyable moment when the sun finally appears.
http://knight-foxbirdringing.blogspot.com/2016/10/that-enjoyable-moment-when-sun-finally.html
Ryan Knight-Fox Bird Ringing. Monday, 24 October 2016. That enjoyable moment when the sun finally appears. I was out three times last week, but not a lot to show for it. I ran out of sunflower seeds, so less chaffinches and no goldfinches. I did get another woodpecker though and a pair of bullfinches :). Male (red patch on the back of the head), Great spotted-woodpecker. A few flocks of Redwing have flown over so fingers crossed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Ryan Knight-Fox Bird Ringing: Over 100 birds
http://knight-foxbirdringing.blogspot.com/2016/10/over-100-birds.html
Ryan Knight-Fox Bird Ringing. Sunday, 16 October 2016. Nice first net round with four new birds, Nuthatch, Chaffinch, Robin and another Goldfinch. This is the 3rd Nuthatch I have ringed, so far I have had two males and one female. The image below indicates that this is a male from the deep rufous feathers underneath its tale. I also had two helpers for a little while, my wife Cathryn, who got to ring bird number 100 (Chaffinch) and my daughter Savannah who was just a bit of a heavy lump :).

Welcome to Dave Hallam Counselling. Providing Counselling Services since 1992. On Sat, 08/13/2011 - 05:26. C’mon, be a man! What a load of crap is packed into that statement! I think we can agree that being male is under attack and subject to revision in recent years, but don’t expect me to blame women’s lib . I’m convinced, men, that we are the agents of our own destruction (or at least, our own distress). Why would I say that? So, let’s think a bit about where we went wrong. On Wed, 08/03/2011 - 17:45.
