In California, it can cost millions of dollars to get elected to a House seat, and tens of millions to get elected to a Senate seat. Compared to what they spend to get elected, their salaries are a trivial amount. Compared to what they cost us through graft, their salaries are nothing. It is a great honor to serve in Congress.
