Tuesday, December 12, 2006. Christmas what is it about? I recently read an article in a RD magazine titled 'Christmas Poll - What we love and hate'. I must say that I was saddened by what I read. Readers Digest asked Australians to vote for the activities they treasure, those that have lost their shine and new traditions introduced into the annual routine. The highest percentage of people said that at Christmas the thing they cherish most is time with family(80%), followed closely by eating(73%). For tho...

davemc: November 2006

http://www.davemcphailat.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 28, 2006. You know people say that tattoos are addictive and I am proof of that, I went under the needle again, to get Ichthus on my upper arm today. For those who don't know Ichthus is greek for fish, it also refers to a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs resembling the profile of a fish. Used by early Christians as a secret symbol and is now known colloquially as the "Jesus fish", commonly seen on cars. Posted by Dave at 10:14 PM. Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

davemc: Reflections...

http://www.davemcphailat.blogspot.com/2006/08/reflections.html

Tuesday, August 08, 2006. The above photos are from a mission trip that I went on to Taiwan (3 years ago). It has to have been some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. Again I pose the question how can people look at the intricacies of creation and not see the work of a loving Creator. Posted by Dave at 10:16 PM. Ditto bro, creation is insane hey! Amazing photos, Dave. Dang, now I want to go to Taiwan! All I'd heard about were ugly nuclear power stations. not really, but yeah. nice!

Friday, June 30, 2006. Well i did it! I now have a tat. For those who are interested here are some pics of the process. Posted by Dave at 6:03 PM. Some random talented photographer took them. That's a big tat! Had many good ops yet to talk to ppl about it? Or waiting for summer? Have a good chat with the dude who did it? You know I'v had a few good chats with people about it, but i'm sure more will come in summer. Ed had a chat with the dude who did it, I was not in a talking mood. That thing is enormous!

Tuesday, October 31, 2006. How important are names? I think that it is time to re-name my (St Matts Youth) youth group! It has been called Friday Night Live (FNL said fast sounds like your are swearing) for about 12 years now, I think that it is time for a change. If anyone has any suggestions to a name that is catchy and has some meaning please post it here. Words in different languages, that mean youth or discipleship.Something, anything is appreciated! davemc: Joy in Ministry

http://www.davemcphailat.blogspot.com/2006/10/joy-in-ministry.html

Monday, October 09, 2006. Have you ever thought about Joy in Ministry; I'm not talking about the lady named Joy who sets up morning tea every Sunday morning. What I am talking about is the joy that you can have in ministry; a sustained joy in the good and trying times of ministry. I have recently been reminded of this Joy in ministry and I want to share with you three points that I found helpful. This reminder is found in Luke 10:17-24. Rejoice that your names are written in Heaven.". We started singing ...

Monday, November 28, 2005. Lest you think that all I care about is stuff like plastic knick knacks, novelty cars and different coloured trees, I thought it was about time I introduce some more people to you! The Sanda school team. They are a really great bunch! But I've never worked somewhere with such a high turnover. I guess that doesn't usually bode well! Oh well. 3 of the people in the picture will be gone as of the end of this year and 2 have started since I have! Yes, that's a pumpkin on my head&#4...

Thursday, August 31, 2006. Not far from my place is an incredible toy museum. It specialises in tin toys, automata (animated toys) and German wooden toys - especially nutcrackers. It seems strange that Arima, a famous onsen town, would be home to these beautiful little objects. but seeing as I'm only a few kilometres away, I'm not complaining! This is an example of automata. They involve winding a handle to make a scene come to life - often with humorous results. This one isn't funny, just quirky...Did I...

Monday, February 27, 2006. Hi again. It's already a month since my last post, which was filled with things from a month before that! I won't say "the flu" ever again unless I am dying from influenza. well, not in Japan anyway. I can't wait to show them around and see some other parts of Japan with them. Also, my friends that I holidayed with in Gifu - Tom, Jen and Ruby are moving to Tokyo in a month! Congratulations on your new job, Jen! Posted by Ian at 12:44 AM. 0 slices of devon. Sunday, June 11, 2006. In a week's time! Kazuya-san (Dad) keeps plying me with drinks, too - he's pretty fond of it. apparently I don't drink much. They are a really nice family. I had a funny weekend a week ago, hitting the town in Osaka on a Saturday night for the first time! I'm too lame/timid to confront people - I guess I should have said something, but I just gave a very unimpressed response as he cracked himself up next to me. Better to shoot at him from the safety of my blog, huh? You come to thi...

Saturday, March 25, 2006. Well, true to form, these shots are really outdated - from before Christmas! Sorry, I know they aren't photos of rotund, semi-nude men as promised, but I don't have time right now to sift through all the images, upload and format them etc. It's tempting, but I would be a very tired fool tomorrow if I started. Instead I've given you a couple of shots of. I thought I'd post these shots up now before they become any more redundant. It's become an annual public sculpture (? Restaura...

Monday, October 31, 2005. It's interesting to see what the kids I teach are into. They bring little things into class - the usual. Type things hanging off their bags and mobiles. Mr. Must be fabulously wealthy. Often a kid will have 2 that are married to each other. Yes, married! You feed them, take them to the toilet, put them to bed, rear them and send them off to be married and reproduce. One girl has an eighth generation. They have more going on in their digital lives than I do. They were on a holida...

davemcneilly | if curiosity killed the cat, at least the cat died nobly

If curiosity killed the cat, at least the cat died nobly. For my Mom: Goodnight Irene. May 15, 2015. McNeilly, Irene Anne (nee Phillips). Irene left us on Tuesday night, May 12th 2015, after 79 years of life. Today it’s a beautiful day outside, and our Mom is gone, and these two realities are irreconcilable. But, it’s time to say good-bye. Mom was born May 16. We’re left with treasured memories, scattered pictures, and the collective love of our family and friends, and while we will miss Mom forever, she...
