Crex Meadows: October 2011
http://crexmeadows.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 16, 2011. The Sense of Smell. Thursday, October 6, 2011. Several migrating songbird species are passing through but the most impressive are the redwing blackbirds. Monday, October 3, 2011. The cranes are back in the refuge and roosting much closer this year than last year. The numbers are not very high yet but a good north wind will change that. Crex Meadows: August 2011
http://crexmeadows.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 31, 2011. I'm going through the butterfly videos from this summer and put this together. Karner's are so common here it is easy to forget they are endangered. There should be more around next year. Its common name was given to it by a Russian novelist who first discovered the species near Karner, NY. Now you can sleep easier. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Sunday, June 24, 2012. This young guy was a backyard visitor last week. It was constantly on the move avoiding flies and exploring. The milkweed gives a sense of size. Crex Meadows: February 2012
http://crexmeadows.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Winter is usually a time for pastel colors with beautiful pinks and blues. The color this winter has been intense at sunrise and sunset. Day colors are not much to talk about but getting out for a late afternoon walk has been great on several occasions. This was taken along Stolte Rd one day last week. Tuesday, February 7, 2012. Crex Meadows: June 2012
http://crexmeadows.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 30, 2012. I was intrigued by this insect's legs and the "sap" on them. This link explains what it is and how it got there. It also gives more information than you might want to know about milkweed plants. Sunday, June 24, 2012. This young guy was a backyard visitor last week. Crex Meadows: January 2012
http://crexmeadows.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 28, 2012. Snow cover is still minimal but deep enough to follow some tracks. With the warm weather normally sleepy wildlife has been active. A porcupine walked over a mile on N. Refuge Rd this week. I followed what looked like possum tracks the other day. Wolves are on the hunt day and night trying to find a winter stressed deer. Single wolf tracks are being seen wherever there are deer tracks. Friday, January 20, 2012. Who is going to be the first to look in it? No snow means easy walk...

Crex Meadows: December 2011
http://crexmeadows.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 11, 2011. Monday, December 5, 2011. Bobcats on the move. I recently checked my trail cams and was surprised to find bobcat activity. We'll see if they were passing though or have established a territory when the cameras are checked later this week. Although it is hard to tell I think there were two cats, each at a different location, about a mile apart. Individual cats are identified by examining facial markings but only one stopped for a portrait. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Crex Meadows: April 2012
http://crexmeadows.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Snow yesterday and 18 degrees today, it is the middle of April isn't it? The prairie light was magical after sunrise this morning. The rainbow of color rarely happens and is usually in the dead of winter. The challenge is to get the camera position and aperture aligned to show this effect. A beautiful day to be alive. Sunday, April 15, 2012. Saturday, April 7, 2012. A couple orange butterflies are also out like this gray comma sunning itself. Tuesday, April 3, 2012. I have been n...

Crex Meadows: Peaking
http://crexmeadows.blogspot.com/2012/07/hiding.html
Saturday, July 7, 2012. I'm always intrigued by plant and insect interaction. The pollination of plants by insects is just one component of this. Frequently insect predators lurk on the flower as well. The whole food chain on a 2 inch flower. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Links to Crex and Beyond. Dale Bohlke's Nature Photography.
