Seize the day!: September 2010
http://ttotoro.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 26, 2010. The old uncle and the sea. Hey, what do you call that in Chinese? A voice from behind interrupted my thoughts. I looked up and saw one of the elderly fishermen from the nearby factory. He pointed to the horseshoe crab I was trying to clean. Photo courtesy of Mss Pegasus). Err it's um." a jumble of names floated up in my head. Helmet crab(カブトガニ). doesn't sound right. couple fish(夫妻鱼). that's very Kinmen. arggghhh it's on the tip of my tongue.". Seize the day!: February 2009
http://ttotoro.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2009. Singapore blooms as lush as Eden itself. Never expected the (is)land of my birth to be compared to the biblical Creation, but in the words of a clearly enlightened ;P traveler:. Singapore blooms as lush as Eden itself. Http:/ www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi? Ah, that fragrance is beautiful, like gardenia or tuberose.". I am standing in a perfectly groomed Eden, a few feet away from a tumbling waterfall, gazing into the dark eyes of a man who looks both ancient and young.

Seize the day!: The Jekylls and the Hydes
http://ttotoro.blogspot.com/2010/04/jekylls-and-hydes.html
Tuesday, April 06, 2010. The Jekylls and the Hydes. They come stealthily in the night, slithering over the fence. Under the cover of darkness, their insidious fingers silently snake across the water pipes and reach for the faucet that doesn't belong to them. When they think no one is looking, the tap is skilfully turned and the water, plundered. Large items of trash would magically appear beside other houses' trashcans, left perhaps as gifts for the unsuspecting occupants. When night falls, the cycle rep...

Seize the day!: Kinmen 金門: Day 1
http://ttotoro.blogspot.com/2010/06/kinmen-day-1.html
Sunday, June 06, 2010. Kinmen 金門: Day 1. Gray skies immediately turned to blue when we arrived at Kinmen. Temperatures also dropped to a very pleasant 26C, with low humidity. At the terminal, after managing to fill out the wrong immigration forms, we made it across thanks to the patient customs staff. Clearly people here are more relaxed and share the typical Taiwanese hospitality. A great front gate made of reinforced timber opened to reveal an ornate courtyard. Crossing the courtyard, one can see a...

Seize the day!: June 2009
http://ttotoro.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 21, 2009. Laughter is the best medicine. One thing I've come to feel is that the Japanese sense of humor is rather similar to that in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong or Singapore. Or maybe it's just me misunderstanding the punchlines. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Where got so much time to blog. Laughter is the best medicine. Picture Window template. Powered by Blogger.

Seize the day!: October 2009
http://ttotoro.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 01, 2009. Sounds I've gotten conditioned to recently include:. The frantic peals of a train's sliding doors just before they close. Time to make a split-second decision- make a run for it and risk embarrassment if the doors slam in my face, or wait for the next train arriving two minutes later. What sounds have you gotten conditioned to lately? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Where got so much time to blog. Picture Window template. Powered by Blogger.

Seize the day!: July 2009
http://ttotoro.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 27, 2009. Trash disposal in my 'hood. Like Germany, Japan has pretty nice trash disposal regulations. According to this handy guide at the entrance to my apartment building, one is supposed to bring out specific types of trash on designated days before 8am. Contained in special standardized trash disposal bags of course. And no parking anywhere near this sign unless you want the social wrath(pressure? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Seize the day!: The rainforest beckons
http://ttotoro.blogspot.com/2010/05/rainforest-beckons.html
Friday, May 07, 2010. The tropical rainforest is a relaxing place to be. Even in areas where the trees are just a few decades old, they tower high up into the sky, forming the signature rainforest canopy. In a frenetic competition for sunlight, they extend their branches and leaves laterally as far as possible, providing shade for the creatures below. At midday, we bid farewell to the forest and headed for the summit. Then, after the customary group photo, it's time for some good food at Beauty World.
