Dave's Retirement Adventures. Trying my best to live the dream! Virgin Islands, April 2016. Thank you to Karen for planning this trip. First four pics taken from where we stayed (on St. Thomas). Karen at the summit of our hot, little hike (St. Johns). Helmet diving on St. Thomas. Helmet diving was great, but the fantastic snorkeling on Coki Beach was unforgettable! One last pic from our deck. Thanks for the beautiful pics, Kar! Posted November 20, 2016 by davesretirementadventures. Enter your comment here.

Dave's Retirement Adventures. Trying my best to live the dream! Archive for October 2015. Peru, with Karen, 8/14/15 to 8/20/15. Peru is a colorful and magical place. I loved the mountainous countryside. Karen is sitting above some ancient Incan terraces. Our excellent guide timed our arrival at a local festival perfectly! Some of the masks were a little unnerving! I loved these beautiful colors. Thank you to Karen for the best of these festival pics! A pic of our Machu Picchu train. Can you say verdant?

Dave's Retirement Adventures. Trying my best to live the dream! Cliff, solo, 1/21/16. The cliffs of Cliff definitely sketched me out: ice, rock, and a thin layer of powder snow. Colden was lit by beautiful late afternoon sun. Posted March 13, 2016 by davesretirementadventures. Wright Peak, solo, 1/15/16. The weather was perfect for hiking until treeline. Then things became VERY windy. I could not stand on Wright’s summit for more than a couple seconds for fear of being knocked over! Mt Marcy, solo, 1/1/16.

Colden for 46 | Take A Hike
https://adirondack46er.wordpress.com/2013/09/29/colden-for-46
White Mountain 4000 Footers. New England Hundred Highest. Colden’s false summit. We kept a good pace on the return and reached the Loj before 5:30. My hiking buddies very kindly bought me mementos at the HPIC while I had stepped into the restroom, presenting me with a Mt. Colden patch and a shot glass featuring a view of Heart Lake. Looking back at Saddleback, from the Gothics cable route;. Climbing up the steep side of Marcy, seeing the summit above you;. Old Marcy Dam trail. Colden from Marcy dam area.

White Mountain 4000 Footers. New England Hundred Highest. Macomb, South Dix and East Dix. Macomb, left, and South Dix. From there we headed over to East Dix, also known as Grace. East Dix is in the process of being renamed to honor Grace Hudowalski, the first female 46er (#9) and a founding member of the 46er organization. Grace has a really amazing, 360 degree summit – the most beautiful of the three mountains we climbed today. Start of Macomb herd path. Macomb herd path before reaching the slide. This ...
Sawteeth | Take A Hike
https://adirondack46er.wordpress.com/2013/07/25/sawteeth
White Mountain 4000 Footers. New England Hundred Highest. View from Sawteeth summit. Today was a perfect day to climb Sawteeth – beautifully sunny, bright blue skies, and temps somewhere around the low 60s. We also had the entire mountain to ourselves; we ran into just one person at the beginning of the day, at Rainbow Falls. There was no benchmark or marker. We had a snack and continued on. Taking the Scenic Trail down was really fun! Sawteeth-bound; footbridge over Lower Ausable Lake dam. Falls were go...
Colvin and Blake | Take A Hike
https://adirondack46er.wordpress.com/2013/09/08/colvin-and-blake
White Mountain 4000 Footers. New England Hundred Highest. Lower Ausable Lake from ridgeline. After a three week hiatus due to achy knees and perhaps a touch of burnout, yesterday was a beautiful return to the mountains with a visit to Colvin and Blake. In addition to just being a lovely day in the woods for the usual reasons, I was joined by four fellow hikers via the high peaks forum and the ADK whose company made the trek even more enjoyable. Heading up one of the many scrambles on Colvin. Hoping for m...
