I basically got into this project after purchasing an x-arcade controller from xgaming.com. The controller came with 6 games, Gauntlet, Joust, Defender, Robotron 2084, and Rampage. The controller played the games great, but it still did not feel like a real arcade cabinet. I started searching the web for people who built a cabinet for their x-arcade controller and found a whole world of people that went well beyond that. My project started when I purchased the book Project Arcade. Hot glue is hot!

Cabinet

Routing for the T-Molding was pretty simple. I thought that this part was going to take a great deal of time, but the router went through the MDF like butter. Beware of the dust. This step creates a great deal of dust, make sure you wear a mask. On of the things that I modified from the Project Arcade book was the addition of a keyboard tray. I'm glad I did this, I've needed to use it many times. For the coin-door lights I used the Flexiglow Lazer Beam Kit from www.directron.com.

For this project I used my old Athlon 1400 Computer running Windows XP Pro. ATI Radeon 9500 Pro Graphics Card w/ TV Out. Upgraded the computer. The old 1400 wasn't able to run the new games like House of the Dead 3 at an acceptable speed, so I picked up a bunch of scrap parts and built a new PC. Here is the new config:. AMD Athlon 64 3500. MSI K8N NEO2-F Motherboard. 2GB Kingston Value RAM. 320GB Maxtor 7200 RPM SATA HD. ASUS X800 Pro Video Card w/ TV Out.

Monitor

For the monitor in my cabinet I decided to go with a 27 Mitsubishi CS27MX1 TV that I purchased used on eBay. Turns back on after power loss. This is a big plus in the cabinet combined with the SmartStrip. This way, when the cabinet is shut down, the TV goes off, and when the cabinet powers back up, the TV goes on. There is no need to use the remote to power the TV. The width of the TV was 25 1/2, making it a perfect fit for the 26 wide cabinet. The 27 monitor Bezel was purchased from Happ Controls. I dec...
