Dave's Travel Air Project: March 2015

http://www.daveswingsetc.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Dave's Travel Air Project. Friday, March 20, 2015. It has been a while since the last entry, but some work has continued. Life gets in the way sometimes, and other things have taken priority, mostly family, but also playing the saxophone. Always wanted to learn, so at age 60, I picked it up and started lessons. Fun! It is never too late. The engine is still the focus, and most of the major parts have been cleaned, inspected, measured, and at times, replaced. Oil Scavenge Pump (before). Jim Gets Me Started.

Dave's Travel Air Project: May 2014

http://www.daveswingsetc.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Dave's Travel Air Project. Tuesday, May 27, 2014. This worked fine, now it's time to paint. The plan is to paint the cylinder sleeves black and leave the heads natural aluminum, with maybe a touch up of silver here and there. Once all of this is done, we can hone the cylinder walls and apply a nice coat of STP or other thick oil as the rust preventative. Then the valves and springs will be installed along with the rocker arms. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Dave's Travel Air Project: October 2013

http://www.daveswingsetc.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Dave's Travel Air Project. Saturday, October 12, 2013. The month of September was spent working, mostly, but with a few days to finish woodwork on the lower wings. Both lower wings were unfinished in that they had no nose ribs from the walkway inboard. This involved making several nose ribs with leading edge strips to complete the inboard portion of the wings. Wow, what a life-saver! They fit the width of the fuselage at every station, and the cut outs for the stringers line up very well.

Dave's Travel Air Project: April 2014

Dave's Travel Air Project. Friday, April 11, 2014. March and April 2014. March and April 2014. Most of March was spent working for a living plus other projects. However, between these there was a little time to work in the shop. This photo shows a jig for building the trim actuator arm which is mounted in the rear cockpit. I piddled around with this thing way too long! Another order and one is back ordered. And so it goes. People ask me about learning aerobatics in an RV-4, which I think is a bad idea&#4...

Dave's Domaine

Wednesday, January 16, 2013. My Picks: Vintages Release ─ January 19 2013. When this week’s release catalog arrived in the mailbox, I confess that I was excited. Regular readers know that I have a soft spot for the traditional wines of the Iberian Peninsula. Carly Simon began singing in my head. Anticipation…is keeping me waiting. Ah, but the subtitle tells the tale:. Span the style spectrum. Turns out that this is code for a bunch of wines with “international” grape varieties. Made with organic grapes.
