Monday, March 30, 2015. We had a more-than 24 hour journey, from Curaçao to Miami to London to Zürich by plane, and then to Lucerne by train. It seems as though this kind of trek only gets harder as we get older. The ever-shrinking seats on the planes don't help, that's for sure. But everything went very smoothly, each and every flight arrived a bit early. But the scenery outside our balcony is still out of this world. Location: Meggen, Switzerland. Friday, February 28, 2014. Our watermaker is made by a company called Spectra. It is designed to use the least possible energy. Since electricity is always scarce on Callisto, this feature is very worthwhile. However, it means that the watermaker is pretty complicated, and that means maintenance. The original estimate was 4 days to get to California, a week on the repair bench, and then 4 days back to Bonaire. A bit over two weeks. Guess what? Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Donkeys were brought to Bonaire starting in the 17th century as beasts of burden. They were used that way right up to the 1940's, but were replaced eventually by motorized vehicles. The remaining donkeys were released into the wild, and have been living on their own since then. There is a separate compound for "senior citizens," one of which is more than 40 years old. A second compound is devoted to new mothers and their babies. Anyway, the Sanctuary is a very good cause....

Friday, November 28, 2014. We've been in Curaçao for more than a week, trying to complete our chores list so we can head for Bonaire. The process has been slower than we planned, because Curaçao is experiencing an outbreak of the viral disease Chikungunya. This is a mosquito-borne disease that causes very high fever, and intense muscle and joint pain.
