David Across the Atlantic. The ramblings of a Fulbright Scholar and mathematician heading to the States. Sunday, 24 January 2010. We'll take a cup o' kindness yet, for the sake of auld lang syne. (Part 2). Sorry for such a delay in the second part - I've been completely snowed under by work for the past few weeks! I could quite easily blame it on jet lag (it would be 10:30am back in the US) but I think in reality I was just absolutely knackered! Hi David, is Mum and Dad there? I've got so much to talk.
David Across the Atlantic...: Rutgers Classic
http://davidacrosstheatlantic.blogspot.com/2010/03/rutgers-classic.html
David Across the Atlantic. The ramblings of a Fulbright Scholar and mathematician heading to the States. Wednesday, 10 March 2010. 160; Now it seems a fairly common switch to change from rowing to cycling (for example, Rebecca Romero won a silver medal in the women’s quad in 2004 before winning a gold medal in Beijing in the individual pursuit in track cycling) so I decided to look into cycling with the Rutgers team. 160; . I was passed by a really quick DeSales guy right at the finish line (...

David Across the Atlantic. The ramblings of a Fulbright Scholar and mathematician heading to the States. Wednesday, 24 March 2010. This was my second weekend of racing and it was the Philly Phlyer. A team time trial (TTT), circuit race and criterium spread over two days. I had performed reasonably well in my first weekend coming 16th, 21st and 22nd out of a field of around 50 intro men's riders, but I was looking to improve on those results in these races. First off was the TTT. In our defence, the other...

David Across the Atlantic. The ramblings of a Fulbright Scholar and mathematician heading to the States. Thursday, 26 November 2009. I am thankful for. During Thanksgiving dinner it is customary in the US to go around the table and for everyone to say what they are thankful for this year. To that end, I thought I would share what I am thankful for:. I am thankful for. I am thankful for. I am thankful for. I am thankful for. Fellow Fulbrighters, both in the US and UK. I have yet to meet a Fulbrighter ...
David Across the Atlantic...: February 2010

David Across the Atlantic. The ramblings of a Fulbright Scholar and mathematician heading to the States. Monday, 8 February 2010. This is just a quick post to let you know how my first ever Superbowl Sunday went. For those of you who don't know, the Superbowl is the biggest trophy in American Football, and is decided through a playoff tournament between the top sides of the 8 regional divisions, plus some wild card entries, culminating in the great American tradition of Superbowl Sunday. Needless to say,...

Please, sir, I want some jobs | Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary

Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary. Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 23, 2010. Please, sir, I want some jobs. Please, no more controversy until November. We passed healthcare, great, fantastic. We can’t afford a fight on education now. I know that President Obama’s insatiable appetite for radically moderate social reform means he wants to move on to education now. I know that Arne Duncan is itching for his chance at the big dance. Democrats need to do two things:. Leave a Reply Cance...

Is healthcare reform constitutional? Part 1 | Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary

Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary. Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 30, 2010. Is healthcare reform constitutional? Part 1: An unqualified rube attempts to outline the problem. In this series, I attempt to resolve, through my complete absence of legal powers, whether healthcare reform is constitutional. More reasonably, I try to lay out some arguments, inconsistencies, and reasoning. In Part 1 of a series that is probably mostly wrong (but very interesting! 3) The regulation of insur...

Gene patents: A failure of incentives | Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary

Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary. Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 30, 2010. Gene patents: A failure of incentives. In the New York Times. United States District Court Judge Robert W. Sweet issued the 152-page decision, which invalidated seven patents related to the genes BRCA1 and BRCA2, whose mutations have been associated with cancer. As with all patents, the argument in support of gene patents is both technical and practical. Where the innovation is. No one would argue that sci...

Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary. Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 28, 2010. Whistling Dixie in Cambridge. I thought I’d take a break from the politics to justify the the genre of this blog, which is ostensibly a “travel diary.”. Often it’s old favorites like the Battle Hymn of the Republic. In high school band, we played a version that had a few extra flourishes, and I like to throw those in and my own as I make my rounds. So I don’t really stroll around Cambridge whistling ...

Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary. Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 27, 2010. America’s Most Fascinating Man. I just had the distinct pleasure to watch the first episode of Season 9 of the Apprentice, and let me tell you, it was a doozy. Now some people might be watching for Daryl Strawberry or Sharon Osborne, but I tuned in for Rod Blagojevich, the indicted former Governor of Illinois (OK, I know, indicted former Governor of Illinois is not very specific–the most recently. Rod Blag...

Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary. Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 22, 2010. What’s Not There. Today is a historic day, the culmination of a century’s struggle. It is a day neither for perfection nor completion, but for progression. In the pursuit of pragmatism, we have left much for the next fight. But we can take comfort that practicing medicine will become truer to the conscience of our best traditions, buoyed by an egalitarian impulse too long neglected. Historic, not iconic.

Humans vs. Lasers | Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary
https://prajwalfulbright.wordpress.com/2010/03/25/humans-vs-lasers
Rollin' with the Fulbright Crew: A Travel Diary. Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 25, 2010. Humans vs. Lasers. The New York Times reported today on a study of a laser-based procedure for cataract surgeries in PLoS One. The original study is here. In the battle between humans and lasers, I always bet on humans. It is true that cataract surgery requires special treatment and skilled eye surgeons. It is invasive. What about the authors’ approach? Their idea is to provide a low-frequency, low-intensi...

David Across the Atlantic...
David Across the Atlantic. The ramblings of a Fulbright Scholar and mathematician heading to the States. Friday, 30 July 2010. My First Ever Triathlon! Aka the crazy things I do on my birthdays). I have a history of doing 'interesting' things on my birthdays. I think digging latrines in Ghana on my 18th is probably the most random, but I think this year classes as the most painful! To put myself through over 3 hours of endurance sport of course! Now I was never the sportiest child (as many of you know!
